To all whom it may concern: I

Be it known that I, HARVEY C. Snnnnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Furniture Anchors, of which the following isa specification.

My invention relates to furniture anchors and arms particularly to provide a type of device that may be used in connection with school desks or similar furniture used in assembly halls in general, and also in connection with gymnasium appliances. It is frequently necessary i to remove this furniture for various purposes and this re.- moval has always been a source of a great amount of trouble. a

My invention aims to provide an attachment which may be permanently placed in the floor, of the hall, being embedded therein in a manner that its upper surface will be flush with the surface of the floor. An attaching structure of peculiar form is then caused to engage the furniture and, by a slight rotation, this attaching structure so engages the member embedded in the floor in a manner to securely hold the furniture in position; I also aim to provide a type of bolt for use in connection with the member placed in the floor, which is such that the bolt itself may never pass entirely through the floor member. Further, this floor member and the attaching bolt are preferably so constructed that the bolt is positively limited in its rotation, to lockitself in position.

In Figs. 2, 3, 5 and 6, I have shown a socket member which forms one of the essential features of my invention, this socket 7 member comprising a body portion 5, being externally threaded as is shown at 6. EX-

tending centrally through this socket member is an elongated slot 7 communicating at its lower end with a counterbored portion 8 of substantially circular formation, although I have provided this counterbored portion with inwardly projecting shoulders 9, these shoulders 9 having one side disposed substantially at right angles to the long dimensionof the slot 7, as is shown at 10. operating with this socket member is a bolt 11 having a flattened and drawn-out head, as shown at 13, this head being shaped somewhat similar to the slot 7 and being adapted to be inserted therethrough to rest in the lower countersunk portion, as is more clearly shown in Fig. 2. Determinately spaced above the level of this head, I have provided two fins 14, these fins being set at such angle with respect to the head 13, that they will prevent passage of the entire bolt through the slotted portion, after the head 13 has been passed through this portion and given a slightturn to prevent its removal, it being understood that the head 13 cooperates with the flat sides 10 of the inwardly projecting shoulders 9 tolimit the amount this bolt is turned. The upper end of the bolt is threaded as at 15, for the reception of a nut 16, which nut is adapted to hold a clamp 17 in firm engaging position with the furniture. This clamp 17 is provided with an overhanging tongue such as is shown at 18 and also with a right angular upwardly extending arm 19 at its lower end. This arm being of a width equal to the width of the bracket itself, Willprevent its easy rotation when the anchors are located in their correct position, it being understood that a number of these anchors are used for each piece of furniture.
