Be it known that I, ROBERT E; CHAPMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canon City, in the county of Fremont, State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shipping-Receptacles; and l do hereby declare the follo-wing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in shipping receptacles, especially those adapted for carrying fragile articles such as eggs.

The object of the present invention resides in the provision of a receptacle provided with means for holding articles such as eggs in such manner that the jar and jolting incident to transportation of the receptacle will not break the contents, it being further the object of the invention to provide compensating means whereby a layer of articles of slightly different heights may be securely held.

A further object of the invention resides in the provision of such a device which may be easily operated, which is durable and eilicient in use and which is further of such simple structure that it may be manufactured at a comparatively low cost.

With the above and other Objects in view, the invention resides in the novel combination, formation and arrangement of parts to be more fully hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing and particularly pointed out in the claim hereto appended.

Reference is had to the accompanying drawing wherein similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawing, the box or recep-i tacle comprises the usual side and end walls 5 and a bottom 6 and a cover 7 which may be fastened on the box by any desired means.

Disposed in the top and bottom of the box are spacing members, each of which comprises a frame formed of side and

end members

8 and 9 respectively. Said members are nailed or otherwise secured together and disposed across one face of the frame is a strip of stout canvas or like material lO tightly'stretched and secured to the side and end members of the frame so that a resilient surface is provided. Disposed between the spacing members is an egg carrying member l1 comprising longitudinal and `transverse series of suitably connected strips formed of a conventional type of cardboard sections resiliently connected. It is noted that the egg carrying member supports the spacing members.

If there be two layers of egg carrying members, a spacing member is disposed between the layers which, as shown in Figll: comprises the frame 12 and strips 13 of stout canvas or like material secured oneaoh face thereof.

If the eggs vary in height, they will press with varying force against the canvas, but as they canvas is stretched both ways all of the eggs will be securely held. By providing the side and

8 and 9, it is observed that when the spacing members and the egg carrying members are positioned in the box there can be no movement of said members themselves relatively to the box.

From the foregoing it is observed that an extremely simple structure has been provided which will efficiently perform all of the functions normally required thereof.
