To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRED S. KNAPP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Partition-Holder for Boxes, of which the following is aspecification.

The present invention appertains to a holder for use in connection with bottle boxes or crates, and aims to provide a novel and improved device for holding the partitions in place within the box or crate, whereby they will not be liable to become accidentally displaced or lost, and whereby the partitions will be firmly held in position to prevent the bottles from shifting or displacing the partitions.

This invention also contemplates the provision of a simple and inexpensive device, which may be secured within the walls of an ordinary box, and which is provided with means for engaging the partitions, to hold the partitions in place, the construction of the present device being such as to enable it to be readily manufactured from sheet metal stock in the form of strips or bars.

ith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention resides in the peculiar formation of the holder, as hereinafter described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein the preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated, and wherein- Figure 1. is a perspective view of a fragmental portion of one of the present holders. The present holder embodies a bar or strip 1 of suitable metal or other material, which is of suitable width and length for the purposes, in order that the bar or strip may be readily secured to the inner side of the wall of a bottle box or crate B. The strip 1 is formed with a series of partition engaging portions 2, each of which is formed at the lower edge of the strip 1 in a simple Specification of Letters Patent. and convenient manner, without punching holes or waste material from the strip. Thus, the strip 1 is divided or cut to provide the upwardly diverging pair of slits 3 extending from the lower edge of the strip 1 and forming the central tapered tongue 1-, and the triangular wings or portions 5 at the sides of the tongue a. The tongue 1 is bent at right angles to the strip 1 upon a fold line 6'at the base of the tongue i, extending between the remote ends of the slits 3 parallel with the edges of the strip 1,

while the wings 5 are bent at right angles with the strip 1 on fold lines 7 extending at right angles to the lower edge of the strip 1 to the remote ends of the slits 3. Thus, as seen in Fig. 1, when the tongues 1 and wings 5 are bent toone side of the strip 1 at right angles thereto, they provide notches in the lower edge of the strip 1 for receiving the upper edges of the partitions P within the box B, the tongues 4; projecting beyond the wings 5 to engage over the upper edges of the partitions, while the wings 5 are engageable over the sides of the partitions.

The outstanding tongues 4 are disposed in a plane arranged longitudinally of and at right angles with the strip, and the outstanding wings 5 are disposed in planes arranged transversely of and at right angles with the strip.

To apply the holder to the box B, the strip 1 is nailed or otherwise secured to the inner side of one wall of the box, at the proper position, whereby the tongues 1 will engage over the upper edges of the partitions, while the wings 5 engage and overlap the sides of the partitions, so that the partitions will be held firmly in place upon the bottom of the box and between the walls thereof.

It is preferable to provide the holders at the opposite sides of the box, in order that the partitions may be more effectively held in place, although it is to be understood that the holders may be employed in various manners for the above purpose, under the various circumstances.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
