E. G. ROSE.
PARTITION. STRIP FOB BOTTLE GRATES. y
APPLIQATION FILED my 5, 1909.
Patented July 5, 1910.
' 'WITNESSES 4 ELIVEER C. ROSE, OF DEFIANGE, OHIO.
PARTITION-STRIP FOR BOTTLE-CRATES.
Specification of Letters I'atent.
Patented July 5, 1919.
Application filed May 5, 1909. Serial No. 494,030.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELMER C. Rosn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Defiance, in the county of Defiance and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Partition-Strips for Bottle-Crates, of which the following is a.
' specification.
My invention relates to partition strips for bottle holding crates, and the object thereof is to provide a novel form of engagement between the longitudinal and transverse strips whereby to eliminate a portion of the locking means heretofore employed, and still maintain said strips in the usual rigidity.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate my invention and form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the partition strips locked together in the position for insertion within a bottle holding crate. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective view of portions thereof in the oclred position, and, Figs. 3 and 4: are fragmentary elevations of engaging portions of opposing locking partitions.
The subject matter of this present application is shown and described in the Patent #929,022, granted to me July 27, 1909, but the said subject matter was not claimed in my prior patent.
In the preferred embodiment of my in vention as disclosed in the drawings, I provide transverse and longitudinal metal strips 28 and 29, respectively, each of which is provided with folded longitudinal edges 30. The upper folded edge 30 of each of the transverse strips 28 is in the form of a channel through which a rigid locking wire 31 passes. Each of the transverse strips 28 is provided with a transverse slot 32, extending through its upper folded edge 30 and body portion, and terminates at a point near the lower folded edge 3, the said slot, 32, being adapted to receive therein the longitudinal strip 29. As shown in Fig. 3, each of the longitudinal strips 29 is provided with a short transverse slot 33 extending from and through its lower edge, adapted to cooperate with the longer slot 32, for looking together the lower edges of the strips 28 and 29. By reference to Figs. 3 and 4,
it will be seen that the lower edge of each of the strips 28 and 29 is rolled as above stated, and therefore the same is made more rigid. The slot 33, extends transversely only a short distance upon the lower portion of the strip 29, and is not long enough to materially reduce the rigidity of the said lower portion of the strip 29. It is obvious that the lower edges of the strips 28 and 29 are releasable only from their interlocked engagement with each other, upon the removal of the locking wire 31. Each of the longitudinal strips 29 is further provided with an opening 3a near the upper edge thereof and in alinement with the channeled upper folded edge provided upon each of the transverse strips 28, and said opening 34: is adapted to receive therethrough the locking wire 31, when the strips 28 and 29 are arranged in engagement, as shown in Fig. 2. The base locking wire, as ordinarily employed, is thus done away with and inasmuch as the base locking wire is very difficult to insert, and adds to the weight of the device as a whole, it is thought that a decided advantage is gained by dispensing with the said base wire.
Having fully described my invention, I claim:
A device of the character described, comprising a strip provided with an aperture near its upper edge, and having its lower rigid edge provided with a relatively short slot, whereby the rigidity of said lower edge is retained, a second strip arranged transversely of said first named strip and provided with a guideway upon its upper edge for the reception of a single wire adapted to pass through said aperture, said second named strip being further provided with a transverse slot passing through its upper edge and terminating near the lower edge thereof, whereby the lower edges of said strips are releasable only upon removal of said wire.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
