ZQEL PERRAULT, OF ,REEDS FERRY, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
SHADE-HANGER.
To all 107mm- 't may concern vBe it yknown that I, ZoEL PERRAULT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Reeds Ferry, inthe county of Hillsboro and State of N ew Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvement-s in Shade-Hangers, of which `the following is a specification. 1
rlhis invention .rela-tes -to shade hangers and has primarily for itsobject to provide a device capable `of adjustment soas to be adaptable for use on window casings of various sizes. v
Another object is to provide a novel form of locking means by which the device is held positively in engagement with :the window casing minus the use of nails, screws, etc.
Other objects as well as the nature, characteristic features and scope of my invention will be more readily understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim forming a part of this specification. y
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevation of a hanger constructed in accordance with my invention, illustrating the application thereof, Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary View of a detail, Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4-1 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 5 is a bottom plan View of the movable jaw used in the present invention. Fig. 6 is a detail view of the inner ends of the movable hanger members.
In the drawings, wherein is illustrated the preferred embodiment of this invention in order to illustrate the application thereof, a support 5 is provided which in the present instance represents a window casing with which my improved shade generally designated 6, is associa-ted. The hanger 6, in the present instance, comprises a pair of relatively movable members 7, each of which has formed in one end thereof an elongated slot 8, through one of which a screw 9 is passed for detachably engaging the proximate ends of the members 7, said members provided with tapered intermediate portions 10, so as to provide shoulders 11 for a purpose which will subsequently appear. The outer terminal of one of the members 7 is turned in right-angled rela-v so as to provide a jaw 12 tion to the body,
with one of the marginal for engagement Specication of Letters Patent.

edges ofthe window casing 5, the jaw being provided with teeth so as to bite into the casing thereby positively engaging the same therewith and .preventing its accidental ,displacement. The opposite member 7 raised as indicated at 18 adjacent its outer terminal, said raised portion being provided with an elongated slot 14 in which is slidably mounted a stud 15 which is carried'by the movable -iaw 16, the latter provided with anelongated slot 17 in which engages a tongue 18, said tongue being formed by reducing the extreme end of lthe last vmentionedymember 7, as shown toxadvantage in Fig. 3. The movable jaw 16 is provided with `teeth 19 which: bite in the casing on the opposite marginal edge Vfrom that with which the j afw 12 isengaged. The innerend of one of the members 7 has a neckv 7 eX- tendingv therefrom -.and -in right angled reverse movement of the members 7, even in the event that undue pressure is exerted thereon, since by mounting the screw 9 on the end of one of the members 7 and passing it through the slot 8 in the opposite member 7, the members 7 would be readily displaced by any undue pressure, as is the case in devices of this character now in use.
In order to enga-ge the jaws 12 and 16 with the opposite side of the casing, a cam lever 20 is interposed between the raised portion 13 and the tongue 18 of the member 7, and is provided on its upper face with a pivot pin 21 which engages through the movable jaw 16 thereby imparting movement to the latter, when pressure is exerted on the cam lever 20, while the latter is limited in its movement by the provision of a tooth 22 which projects from the periphery of the cam and abuts one side of the tongue 18, said lever 20 being provided with a finger-piece 23, so as to facilitate the actuation of the same.
The shade supporting members, as indicated at 24 are identical in configuration, each comprising an elongated base, one end 25 of which is turned atright angles to the Y body for engagement with one end of the window shade, in the usual manner. A slot 26 isI formed in each of the members 24,
which ,engage the reduced portions positemarginal edges of the window casing, and the cam lever 20', then actuated so that theteeth oii'the jaws 12 and 1G wi'll bite into'the casing, thereby positively preventing the accidental displacementof the same. The shade supporting members, 9Aare then adapted so as' toconform to the lengtho'the sliadeiand are .engaged therewith in the usual manner, after-'which the screws 2S are tightenedrpreventing the accidental displace; ment of the window shade.V vVhen'desired, the device may be expeditiously removed from the window casing by merely disengaging the jaws l2 and 16 therefrom which' is accomplished by releasing the cam-lever 20.
It will'be understood that the above de'- sciiptionand accompanying drawings 'com-V throughY the members 7 y 29 through vpiehend only the general and preferred einbodiment of my invention and that variousI minor changes in details of construction, vvproportion and arrangement of parts, may bei made within thescopeof the appended claim and without sacrilicing any of the advantages of my invention. Having thus fully described my invention wha-t1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is; f' A shade -hanger including a pair ofsl'idably connected relatively movable casing engaging members, eachv of which is reduced to Aprovide shoulders, shade' supporting brackets slidaloly mounted onfthe reduced portionsof said members and having tongues extending therefrom'vfor abutment 'with said the movement or said f and'means ior shoulders for limiting brackets in one direction, A
engagingA said members with.y
the window casing.
