To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, ULYSSES G. FISH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stroudsburg, in the county of Monroe and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Curtain and Shade Brackets, of which the following 1s a specification.

My invention relates to curtain and shade fixtures for window casings, and contemplates the provision of a pair of companlon members each of which is adapted to support one end of the shade and curtain respectively, and which are adapted to be positioned on the top and each end of the window casing.

An object of my invention is a provision of means for supporting a pair of brackets of this character in fixed position on the casing.

A further object is a provision of a construction wherein the brackets may be adjusted relatively to each other to permit the use of the device with window casings of various sizes. I

The nature and advantages of my invention will be best understood by reference to the following specification and to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof.

In the construction of my device I provide a pair of companion fixtures A and B one of which is adapted to be placed upon the upper right hand corner of the window casing, and the other upon the upper left hand corner of the same. Each of the fixtures comprises preferably a horizontal arm 1 which is positioned on the top of the casing, and a vertical arm 2 positioned on the side of the casing. Connected to the arms in any suitable manner is a plate 3, the said plate contacting with the outer face of the window casing. The plate 3 is centrally formed with a longitudinally arranged outbulged portion providing what I will term a rib 4.

The rib 4 is provided with a longitudi-, nally arranged elongated slot 5 and is adapted to receive the central depressed portion 7 of a curtain pole supporting bracket 6. The bracket 6 as will be noted by reference to the drawings, is provided with extensions beyond its portion 7 which are in the nature of wings and which contact with the plate 3 to the opposite sides of the rib 4. The central portion of each of the brackets is provided with an orifice through which passes the threaded shank of a headed member 8 that also passes through the slot 5 in the rib 4 of the plate 3, while the numerals 9 indicate nuts engaging with the said shanks of the members 9. By this arrangement it will be noted that the brackets 6' may be longitudinally adjusted upon the plates 3, so that the brackets may be brought to receive the pintles of curtain rollers of various lengths.

On the vertical arm of each of the members there is provided a pair of eye bolts 10 or other suitable bearings spaced at a pre-determined distance from each other to receive the curtain pole support. The curtain pole support 11 is preferably of a single piece of wire and is bent intermediate at its ends to provide a hook 12 which is adapted to receive the curtain pole. Extending from the hook 12 is a pair of arms 13 and 14 each of which is provided with a lateral offset 15 and bent at its terminal 16 so as to be received in the eye bolt 10.

' The upper member or arm 1 of the fixture A has arranged thereon a longitudinally extending rib 17 provided with suitably spaced transverse notches l8,the said notches preferably inclining toward the end of the arm 1. Arranged upon the top of the other bracket and preferably at a point adjacent its inner end there is provided a headed projection 19 which is adapted to receive the notched end 20 of a lever 21. The lever 21 carries a wire or other flexible member 23 which has a loop 23 arranged upon its free end. By reference to Figs. 2 and 4 of the drawings, it will be noted that the lever 21 is provided with a widened portion on one of its sides, and on this widened portion the upper face of a lever is provided with an eye 21. The eye is, therefore, off the center of the lever, and to this eye, the fiexible element 23 is secured. When the lever is operated to draw the flexible element taut, in a manner and for a purpose which will presently be apparent, the flexible element will have a tendency to swing the lever 21 inwardly of the fixture upon which it is arranged to bring the inner edge thereof into contact with a projecting member provided for this purpose, and consequently, hold the lever tight on the fixture. The loop 23 is adapted to be received in one of the notches 18 formed in the rib 17. The" lever when fulcrumed upon the headed projection 19 is arranged angularly with .respect to the fixture members and to the window casing, being swung outwardly thereof so that the looped end 23 may be arranged in any of the spaced notches 18 of the ribs 17 The lever 21 is then swung upon its fulcrum, bringing the same over the longitudinal arm 1 of the fixture member B, drawing the flexible element 23 taut and consequently bringing the members A and B toward each other and their vertical or offset arms 2, in tight engagement with the ends of the window casing. -A second headed projection 24: is formed on the bracket and spaced vbetween the headed pro.-

The projection 24: is so positioned that when the two fixtures. are in an assembled position it is out of alinement, and to the rear of the projection 19 and the notches 18. It will vtherefore be understood that when the lever bears against this projection the flexible element will be spaced off its center and will be securely locked in position.

If desired additional fastening means such as a nail or any other suitable device maybe employed to hold the bracket in position. This is illustrated in the drawings by the nail 20 passing through the vertical arm 2 into the side of the window casing. It will be seen that the device can be utilized without the use of any fastening elements of this type which mar the wood work, and that when any fastening elements said angular members lever to contact with at all are used, they are driven into the cas- IVhile I have described with some detail the embodiment of my invention asset 'forth in the specification and drawings, it

Nhat I claim is:

In combination wlth a window casing, of a fixture therefor,

comprising two right angular members adapted to be arranged on the corners of the casing, the horizontal element of each-being of a greater length than the vertical element thereof, eyes on the vertical elements of each of the members designed'to receive therein removable fixtures, plates on the outer faces of the designed to contact with the outer faces of the corners of the casing, brackets on said plates, a notched rib on the horizontal element of one of the angle 111G11'1b6IS, two spaced headed members upon the horizontal element of. the other angle member, a lever havinga notched end, designed to engage with one of the headed elements, a flexible element secured to the lever beyond the center thereof, said flexible element having a looped end adapted to be received in one of the notches of the referred to rib and to exerta tension between the lever and the rib. to cause the the second mentioned headed element of the angle member, when the lever is swung towardv such headed element.
