TQWEL-PAPEB HOLDER.
Specification of Letters JPatent.
Patented Sept. f, 1915.
Application filed October 14, 1914. Serial No. 866,578.
Holders, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to holders for what is lmown as towel paper, and the object tit did
thereof is to provide an 1m roved device of this class deslgned for use 1n hotels, restaurants, bar-rooms and other places, and which will also be sanitary in construction and use, and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class specified, constructed and operating as herenying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a front view of my improved towel paper holder; Fig. 2 a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and, Fig. 3 a section on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
In the practice of my invention, as shown in the drawing, I provide a box or case a: which is preferably rectangular in form, and the front of which is provided atthe tcp thereof with a door a hinged at a and a apted to open downwardly so that the roll I) of towel paper may be passed in through the doorway, and said door is provided at the top with any suitable lock device a adapted to be operated by a key passed through a key-hole (f.
The roll 6 of towel paper is wound on a central shaft or roller 6 and the opposite sides of the box or case a is provided with U- shaped keepers or supports 6 adapted to receive the ends of said shaft or roller.
The front of the box or case a is provided near the bottom thereof with a transverse slot or opening a through which the sheet 6* of paper is adapted to be passed and adjacent to each end of the slot a are vertical slots or openings 12' Within the bottomw portion of the box or case is a transverse bar 0 in the bottom surface of which is a longitudinal recess 0 and pivoted at d is a lever e which is preferably made in the form of a rectangular frame and which comprises two parallel side members e, a transverse back member a and a transverse front member 6, and the sides e of the lever pass through the slots or openings in the front of the box or case and are vertically movable therein. The front member 0* of the lever e is made in the form of, or provided with a raised blade or cutting edge as shown at e in Fig. 2, and the back member 6 is adapted to enter therecess 0 in the bar 0 and to clamp the paper I) therein in the operation of the device as hereinafter described. I also preferably place inwardly of the slot or opening a in the bottom front portion of the box or case two clamping guide rollers f and g, one of which is placed above the other and the sheet 6 of paper is passed between the rollers f and g and then out through the slot 0",
and a small part b of said sheet always projects as shown in Fig. 2.
It will be observed that the inner end portion or part of the lever e is longer than the front end portion or part and the normal position of said lever is that shown in Fig. 2, and whenever it is desired to use the paper the front projecting edge 6 is grasped by the thumb and fingers and any desired amount of the paper is pulled out, after which a downward pull .on said paper will throw up the inner end of said lever and cause the part 6 to press the paper into the notch or recess 0 in the bars 0, and at the same time or during the said movement the strip of paper pulled out may be cut off on the blade 6 Of course, this operation may be repeated, whenever it is desired, and the rollers f and g prevent the paper from moving back automatically into the box or case paper, and that part of the sheet b* with drawn therefrom is always kept clean, as the hands can be brought in contact with only that part of said sheet that is with drawn from the box or case, and dirt of any kind or class cannot collect on the roll t, or on the sheet I).
It will be observed that the bar 0 consists mensions of the lever e and this enables the part c of said lever to operate m'the recess 0 The closed box or case independently of the mechanical or operating features therein is intended for the purpose of keeping the towel paper clean and sanitary, while also serving as a support for said mechanical features, and my invention is not limited to any particular. form of box or case and any suitable device of this kind or support for the mechanical and operative parts may be employed, and changes in and modifications of the construction herein described may be made, within the scope of. the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages. c
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 2-- 1. A holder for towel paper, comprising a box or casein the bottom front part of which is a transverse slot, a bar secured transversely in said box or case, a lever pivoted between said bar and the front of the box or case and the one end portion of which passes throughthe front of the box or case and is vertically movable'therein, and the other end portion of which operates in connection with said bar, and said front end portion being also provided with a transverse cutting edge, and two rollers mounted inwardly of said slot and above and below the same.
2. A holder for towel paper, comprising a support or case in the top portion of which are supports for a roll of towel paper, and the bottom front portion of which is open to permit the passage of a sheet of paper therefrom, a bar secured in the bottom portion of said support or case and parallel with the supports of the roll of paper, a
lever pivoted between said bar and the front of the support or case and the inner end portion of which is adapted to bear on the bottom of said bar and the front end portion of which passes through the opening in the front of the support or case and is provided with a transverse cutting edge.
3. A holder for towel paper, comprising a support or case in the top portion of which are supports for a roll of towel paper, and the bottom front portion of which is open to permit the passage of a' sheet of paper therefrom, a bar secured inthe bottom portion of said support or case and parallel with the supports of the roll of paper, a lever pivoted between said bar and the front of the support or case and the inner end portion of which is adapted to bear on the bottom of said bar and the front end portion of which passes through the opening in the front of the support or case and is provided with a transverse cutting edge, said bar being also provided with a groove adapted to receive the inner end portion of said lever.
4. A holder for towel paper, comprising a support or case in the top portion of which are supports for a rolled sheet of paper and in the bottom front portion of which is an opening through which said sheet may be passed, a bar secured transversely of said support or case and in the bottom portion thereof and below the supports of said roll of paper, a lever pivoted between said bar and the front of the support or case and the inner end portion of which is adapted to bear on the bottom of said bar and the front end portion of which passes through the opening in the front of the support or case and is vertically movable therein and is provided with a transverse cutting edge.
a In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing witnesses this 13th day of October, 1914.
