To all whom at may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES S. Anous, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of I11in01s, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Roll-Ticket-Dispensing Devices; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference bein had to the accompanying drawings, an characters of reference marked thereon, wliichforrn a art of this specification;

This invention relates to a novel roll ticket dispensing device, such as is used in moving picture shows, concessions for amusement parks and the like, and the invention consists in'th'e combination and arrangement of the parts shown in the drawings, described in the specifications and pointed out in the appended claims.

Among the objects of the inventlon are to provide: a i

A ticket-dispensing device for the purpose set forth, in which the tickets, drawn from a continuous ticket roll, may be counted ofi as they are withdrawn from the device, individually or-in series, so as to insure accuracy of count in dispensing the tickets; whether they be dispensed individually or in roups.

A ticketispensing device in which the ticket strip is reliably locked from further withdrawal as one or more of the tickets are torn from the ticket strip;

A ticket-dispensing device in which the movement to tear a ticket or tickets from the ticket strip serves to automatically lock the ticket strip from further" withdrawal;-

A ticket-dispensing device provided with a tearing edge that is located on a movable gate which permits the. free end of the strlp to be readily grasped by the thumb and finger and which constitutes tearing means by which a ticket or tickets are torn from -a continuous strip,

As shown in the drawings, 10 designates the base of the device which may be formed of any suitable heavy material to support a ticket roll bracket 11 in which is mounted a reel 12 for supporting a roll 14 of tickets 15. The reel bracket 11' may be otherwise supported from a fixed or stationary support.

Rising from said arms 33 are posts 35, between the upper ends of which extends a horizontal pivot rod or pin 36.. On said rod 36 is hinged a swinging gate 38 that is formed at its lower side to constitute a tearing edge 39, upwardly over which the individual tickets are torn along their transverse scored or parting lines 40. Said strip when drawn outwardly is pulled slightly upwardly so as to engage the forward ends of the arms 33. This engagement, of the ticket strip with the free ends of the arms 33 has the effect of swinging the forward end of the check plate upwardly about its pivot 28,-and thereby swinging the rear end thereof downwardly and pressing the lugs 30 of said plate against the upper face of the ticket strip which is being drawn Therefore as the lugs come opposite the side notches 31 of the ticket strip, they are pressed into said notches and produce a perceptible check in the advance of the strip such as will enable the operator to know when a ticket length has been withdrawn and also to count the individual tickets when .a number of them are withdrawn at one time. The distance between the lugs 30 and the tearing edge of the gate 38- is such that when the lugs are engaged with a pairof notches 31 in the rear of the gate, one of the tearing lines 40 of the strip, which linesare disposed opposite to the pairs of notches, is located just beneath the tearing edge of the gate. Therefore by sharply lifting the forward 'end of the strip upwardly, the ticket or tickets withdrawn may be torn off. Furthermore, by reason of the fact that-the sharp lift of the ticket strip against the forward end of the check plate causes the rear lugged end of the plate to be depressed, said lugs enage the pair of subjacent notches so as to old the tlcket strip from being pulled outwardl during the tearin operation. It will t us be seen that tlfe evice is positive to count the number of tickets being withdrawn and is also positive'to hold the strip in place to tear the tickets at a tearing or parting line. The forward ends of the arms 33 of the check plate are sharpened to constitute the ends of the tearing edge of the device.

I claini as my invention 1. A device for dispensing tickets from a continuous strip, comprising means to hold a continuous strip; a guide outwardly through which the str1p is drawn, a tearing -member for the strip and means under the control 'of a withdrawn portion of the strip embracing a counting projection adapted to engage markin s on the strip and operating to serially chec the tickets ofthe strip for the purpose of counting the tickets and topositively lock the strip during the tearing operation.

2. A device for dispensing tickets from a continuous strip marked at intervals with notches to produce ticket sections, comprising a holder for the strip; a guideand tearing device through which the strip is drawn, and means under the control of a withdrawn portion of the ticket strip and cooperating with the notched portions of the'strip to successively check or count off ticket sections as the strip is continuously withdrawn, and to positively lock the ticket from further withdrawal during the tearing operation.

3. A device for dispensing tickets from a continuous stri marked at intervals with notches comprising a strip holder from which the strip is withdrawn; a guide for the strip, and a pivoted element provided at one end with a tearing edge to sever in dividual tickets and at its other end with astrip checking and locking means to engage said notches, said pivoted element being acted upon by continuous withdrawal. of the strip to check the tickets withdrawn and to lock the strip from withdrawal when the strip is raised against said edge.

A device for dispensing tickets or the like from a continuous strip, comprising a holder forthe stri a guide through which engage said markings to check ofi ticket sections as the strip is continuously withdrawn and to positively arrest further withdrawal of the strip when the strip is raised against the tearing edge during the tearing operation.

A device for dispensing tickets or the like from a continuous strip of that kind which is notched or perforated to divide the stri into individual tickets, comprising a hol er for the strip; a guide through which the strip is withdrawn; a pivoted check plate provided at one end with aprojection to en age said perforations, and provided at its ot er end with a tearingedge.

6. A device for dispensing tickets or the like from a continuous strip that is notched or perforated to divide the strip into individual tickets, comprising a holder for the stri a guide through which the strip is wit drawn; a pivoted check plate provided at one end with a projection to engage said perforations, and a swinging gate carried by the other end of said plate and provided with a tearing edge.

7. A device for dispensing tickets or the like from acontinuous strip that is marked at intervals to produce ticket sections, comprising a holder for the strip; a guide comprising a bottom member notched at its front end and provided with upstanding flanges; a check plate pivoted between its ends and provided at its rear end with a retarding projection to engage the markings of the strip, and a gate hinged to the other end of said plate and formed at its lower end to provide a tearing edge.

8. A device for dispensing tickets or the like from a continous strip that is marked at intervals to produce ticket sections, com prising a holder forthe strip; a guide comprising a bottom member notched at its front end and provided with upstanding flanges; a check plate pivoted between its ends and provided at its rear end with a retarding projection to engage the markings of the strip, said plate belng notched opposite to the notch of the ide bottom member and provided at the sides of its notch with upstanding arms, and a gate hinged to said arms and provided at its lower end with a tearing edge.

9. In a device for the purpose set forth, in combination, a guide, a check late hinged thereto and provided at one en with counting means adapted to engage markings on a ticket strip to momentarily retard and to positively lock the strip, and operated by swinging movement of said plate, said plate being provided atits other end with a tearing edge.

10. In a device for the purpose set forth, in combination, a guide, a check plate hinged thereto and rovided at one end with strip retarding an positive strip locking means and at 1ts other end with a swinging member formed with a tearing edge.

11. In a device for the purpose set forth, in combination, a guide comprising a floor which is notched at its forward end and provided with upstanding guide flanges, a check plate over the said floor between said flanges with means to pivot it-to the flanges, said check plate being provided at its rear end with strip-retardlng means and at its front end with a tearing edge.

12. In a device $01 the purpose set forth, in combination, a guide comprising a floor which is notched at its forward end and provided with upstanding guide flanges, a check plate over the said floor between said flanges, with means to pivot it to the flanges, said check plate being provided at its rear end with strip-retarding means, and notched at its forward end above the notch of the guide floor, and a gate hinged to said notched end of the guides on a pivot above said guides and formed with a tearing edge.

13. A device for dispensing tickets from a continuous strip, comprising means to hold a continuous strip; a guide outwardly through which the strip is drawn, a tearing member for the'strip, and means under the control of a withdrawn portion of the strip, embracing a counting projection adapted to engage markin on the strip, and operating to serially chec' the tickets of thestrip for the pur ose of counting the tickets and to positive y lock the strip during the tearing operation, said tearing means, when in operative position, and counting projection being spaced a distance equal to the length of a ticket.
