ROLLING- WINDOW-SCREEN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 24, 1915.
Application filed August 3, 1914. Serial No. 854,812.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM P. UNDER- HILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rolling Window-Screens; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and'us'e the same.
This invention relates to rolling window screens, and one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide simple, reliable and etlicient means for connecting a window screen to a spring actuated roller and for mounting the roller underneath a hood at the outside of the window and means for connecting the lower edge ofthe screen mai terial to a strip or roller having its ends reduced and mounted in guide ways in the sides of the window frame, so that the screen may be readily moved up and down and connected to the window sill when lowered in position for use.
The foregoing and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a front elevation oi? the upper portion of the rolling window screen with the hood or cover removed. Fig. 2 is a similar view in which the cover or hood is shown in place, Fig 3 is a vertical sectional view taken through the roller and the hood, Fig. 4: is a similar view looking at the opposite end of die roller. Fig. 5 is a detail sectional view of one of tho guide ways for the roller at the end of the screen material, and Fig. 0 is a plan vim-w ol' llubracket I'mthe squared pintlu of the sort-on roller.
elm-ring tothe drawings. the numeral 1 dcsignates'a window shade roller ol' ordi nary construction, and 2 is the bracket secured outside to the window frame, and provided with a rectangular pintle bearing 3 for the squared pintle ol' the roller. Upon the opposite side of the window frame is a bracket 4- having a round bearing for the providing two laterally extending feet to be connected to oppositely disposed cleats 10 and said feet and cleats are connected to the window frame outside the window by means of suitable fastenings 11. The screen material is designated by the letter a.
Extending over the roller carryingthe screen material is a hood or protector 12 which is secured to the window casing by means of a plate 13 and suitable fastenings let. The hood 12 is provided with end tabs or covers 15. The roller or cross bar 6 is provided with a ring 16 designed to be connected to a pin or nail secured to the window sill at the lower portion thereof. The roller 6 being substantially the length represented by the distanec between the two guide members 8 will prevent any side movement or irregular winding of the screen material upon the roller 1, and will insure a smooth action of the screen material. From the foregoing it will be obvious that a window screen made in accordance with this invention can be rolled up out of the way when not required for use, and can be quickly drawn down and secured whenever required.
Various changes may be made in the detail of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the claim.
\Vhat is claimed is:-
