Description

L. REGARD.
WINDOW SCHEEN. APPLICATION m;o ww2t. 191e.
LOUIS RICARD; DE DETROIT, MICHIGN, ASSIGNOR E ONEHALF T0 TELSPHORE ST. DENIS,- OF WINDSOE, ONTARIO, CANADA.
WINDOW-SCREEN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patenteol Apm. ro, 19mg To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that- I, LOUIS RICARD, a citi-' zen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the'county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvemencs in VVindow- Screens, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to tln accompanying drawings.
This invention relates towindow screens and the primary object ofmy invention is to furnish a -window sill or frame with a rollable fiy screen adapted to be un1olled or raised simultaneonsly with a window sash and restored to a rolled or normal. position by a spring axially of the scre n and;.construcfied somewhat upon the principle of 211 ordinary curtain shade rollerL Theabow object, as 'outlinedQ is attaine'd by suitably securing a cusing to the sill ofa-window frame' and pla ing a sprinQroller in said ca'sing to hold a flexible IOll'able screen,
* either in the form of wr r fabric.
" A further objeot 'of. my invention;is tlie .provisionfi1ovel means in eonnection with a .window f-ra fne whereby a sereen of the boVe type'mty be distznnected f-rom a sash and'upported in an unrolld or raised position, independent of thesash, t0 cdm1dletely dry ont afterhaving been subjected to the action of=- min.
'The above and other objects are attained by structnral details that will be herirafter refetred=to and 'then -clirxfed, and =rferenoe will noW be ;had to the drWing,; Wherein Figure 1 fa frontelevation Ofa windowfraihe pro1ded W1th a scree'n: 111 accordnce sill 2 and sashes 3 and 4:, the latter having a bottom rail 5 to whioh is connected, detachably and indirectly, a flexible rollable screen 6. As heretofore mentioned the screenmay be made of wire or fabric netting andthe sereen -is W0und upon and attached to a sprmg roller 7. This roller has the pintles thereofsflpported by erid*walls 8 of "a metallie casing 9,said casing being mounted on and secured to the sill 2. of 'the window frame. The casing 9 is perferabl made of non-corrodible sheet metal pressed and shaped to bouse thescreen 6 and Said casing has a longitudinal slot or Opening 10 in which the sereen 6" extends for attachment to thebottom rail 5. of the lower Sash'4, The outer end ofthe screen 6 is connecte to the innerside of a 2 bar 11,5aid bar hav- 'ing t he upper edge thereof 'pr'ovided with key hole shaped openings 12 and.the5e openingS permit of'the Z bar being}detachably niounted on screws or studs 13 carried by the bottom rail 5. .By simply -raisingfl heZ bar 11 relative to the bottofli 1ail 5, the scre en may be discnnecced; from the lower sash and. said sash raised and lowered independently of the screen.
The 2 .barl1 has th lowonedge thereof (pfiset, .as'at 14 to hang oVer the slot- 10 of the casin g 9"ndprevent rain and fforeign matter from entering said casing, spcially when the..lower sash is closed,
, -Onthe longitudinal edgs 'of the screen 6 are strips or biIidrS 15thatride against the'stiles 1.of'thewiridow=frame, as best shoWn inFig. 5, and c operate with tlie screendhlosirrg the-opening incurred by raising the.lower-.sash 4L. ;Adjacent the ripwouhd p i 'awet condition, but b attachto remain .in- 21.; raised position' to dry oil the casing 9 :is provided with a guide roller 18 adjacent the slot 10, said roller maintaining the screen in a vertical plane as it is unwound or raised.
It is thought that the utility and operatien of the window screen Will be apparent Without further description, and While in the drawing there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that the structural elementS are susceptible to such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended daim.
What I daim is:
The combination With a window frame having a sill, stiles and a sash, of a casing on said frame sill provided with a longitudinal slot at the upper inner-edgethereof, a normafly wound-up screen said casing and having an end thereof extending through the slot of said casing, a guide roller in said casing at the slot thereof and maintaining said screen out of contact with the walls of the slot of said casing, a Z bar detachably connected to said sash and permanently attached to said screen, said Z bar having an ofiset Portion extending over and in front of the front wall of the slot of said casing, and hooks carried by said stiles adapted to engage said screen and hold said screen uhwound independently of said sash. In testimony v vhereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
