Description
HonAoE WAENEE, or EmeEwAY, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASHING-MACHINES.
Speciticatiown forming part of Letters Patent No. 115,139, dated May 23,1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HORACE WAENER, of
Ridgeway, inthe county ot' Elk and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Washing-Machine; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exact description thereof7 which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part" of this specilication. v
This invention relatesto a new and useful improvement in machines for washin g'clot-hes, having special reference to a washing-machine `for which Letters Patent No. 109,279 were sponding parts.
A is the tub. B B are the washingcones, which are rotated in the tub by revolving the shaft C by means ofthe crank D. These cones revolve on pivots of theirown while beingcarried round by the shaft. The outer ends are supported by the yoke E. F is a spiral spring on the shaft, by which the shaft and cones are pressed down onto the clothes. Gis an open latticed false removable bottom in the tub, whichis supported on spiral springs H. The bottom may be a perforated disk. It is sur rounded by a rim, I, raised sufficiently above the upper surface of the bottom to contain the clothes. The cones are operated Within this rim. By raising the clothes above the true bottomin this manner a much greater quantity of suds may be used. The impurities settle below the clothes, while the elastic bottom allows an even pressure upon the clothes. J is the cover on the tub, Which is hinged to the tub at K in such a manner that, when raised and thrown back, the cones are lifted out of the tub, as the shaft is supported entirelyby the cover. L is a drip-cup on the inside of the cover, near the hinge, for catching the suds or water which may drip from the cones whenthe latter are thus raised out otl the tub.v When the cover is turned back over the tub the drip-water which has been caught in the cup or receptacle L is discharged back into the tub.
Havingvthus described my invention, I cla-im as nevvand desire-to secure by VLetters Patent- 1. The cup L, arranged as described on the inside of cover J to receive the drip from the cones, in the manner specified.
2. rIhe arrangement of the open bottom G,
springs H, and iiange I, (on the bottom of the tub,) in combination with conical rolls B work- Aing Within said iiange, as and for the purpose specified. f
The above specification ot' my invention signed by me this 18th day of February, 1871. HORACE WARNER.
Vitnesses:
GEO. W. MAEEE, T. B. MosHER.
