Specification of Letters Patent.
, Patented Aug, 117, 1915.
Application filed May 29, 1915. Serial N 0. 31,168.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN C, WINANS and HARRY KELLEY, citizens of the United States, residing at Waldron, in thecounty. -of Hillsdale and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Kerosene-Vaporizers and Gas-Generators; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descripand to the letters and figures of reference marked'thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in kerosene Vaporizers and gas generators and consists of a simple and efficient device of this nature having various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
Our invention is illustrated in the accom panying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a central longitudinal sectional view through the device, parts being in elevation. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a top plan view. I
Reference now being had to the details of the; drawings by letter, A designates a generator, consisting of a pipe having two curved branching portions B with burners C at the ends thereof. I A suitable base or air chamber D, of any suitable material, is
upon the bottom of which the said curved portions B rest and the top of such base is recessed away as at E to receive the air and gas mixers H which are positioned over the jets or burners.- Flame deflectors K depend I from the generator and are positionedimmediately over the jets or burners in order to deflect the heat.
It will be noted that the air chamber has a bottom portion N adjustable by means of screws 0 and that the generator is held to the base by means of a strap K, the ends of which are angled and held by bolts or other suitable means to the base. A suitable tank T is shown as being provided with a valved outlet T from which a pipe S leads to a valve S, allowing the oil to pass into the generating chamber. A suitable asbestos wick, designated by letter X, is mounted in the generator chamber, the same being inserted through an opening in the end which is closed by a plug Y. 5
In operation, the base of the generator is adapted to rest upon the grates in the bottom of a fire box, stove or range. The air, which mixes with the gas, passes through the grates and on through the base or air chamber, thence passing through the mixing devices adjacent to the flames and, when the flame is burning, it will come in contact with the deflectors, thus spreading-the flame. In practice, the channel in which the curved pipes rest is preferably filled with asbestos or ashes and a little oil may be poured in the channel or allowed' to flow through the gas tips for lighting purposes and, after the apparatus is in operation a short time, sufficient heat will be generated so that the apparatus will produce its own gas.
What we claim to be new is A kerosene vaporizer and gas generator comprising a base which is hollow with apertures in the bottom thereof and a hollow bottom within said generator is adjustably held, the upper surface of the bottom of the base having a longitudinal groove therein, curved pipes leading through the top of the base and positioned in said groove, the
top of the base having a longitudinal groove,
with openings leading through the top of the base, gas mixers seated in the openings in the bottoms of said grooves, burners upon the. pipes and positioned below and adjacent to said mixers, andheat deflectors fastened to said pipes andpositioned over the mixers.
In testimony whereof we hereuntoahix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN C. WINANS. HARRY KELLEY.
