Description

H. Si HAVEN.
YlNG DEHCE,
AFPucATmH man ma. n. 1915.
Ig, l www@ Aug. le, 1935.
at the rst operation the flanges 'B3 are closed down upon the band A', arid thenthe terminalo the band A is released by opening the jaw F2 and the terminal is bent back y 5 over the closed flanges B3, as plainly-.indicated in Fig. 4. In order to enable'the operator to" readily close the danges vB3 as above described, use is preferably made of' a closing lever Gr fulcrumed on the top of the member D2 and adapted uto swing in a transverse direction. Thelever Gr is provided with a die Gr adapted to engage'theV flanges 4Blso as to press the same downward on swinging the' lever Gr down into closingA position, as fwiil be readily under'- .stoodby reference toI Fig. 3. It is understood that dnring the time the closing lever G is used the band A is held taut by the jaws F, F2, and after the flanges B3' have been closed -down upon the band A, the jaw F2 is opened and the terminal of the band 'is 'bent back over the closed flanges B3, as
previously explained and shown in Fig. 4. In case the band is not drawn suiciently tight around the article C during the first operation as above described, then the jaw F? is opened and the arm F is swung back into vertical position, after which the jaw F2 is closed to take another grip on lthe band A and to again draw the same taut on swinging the arm F downward. This operation can be. repeated as many times as necessary to draw the band AV :very tiglit around the article C andthenthe flanges.
B3 ,are closed as before explained..` After the `terminal has been bent over the flanges B3 th. surplus material is cut Aolf (see Fig. il In case a tyingplate H is used in con- 40 j unetion with a tyingwire l, then one end v et' this 'wire l is attached 'to an eye H2 in the vertical member l-l of the said tie plate, i while the other end of .the wire is passed through an eye ll in the horizontal member .H' of the tying plate H: The'free end ofthe wire passing through the eye Hf is vengaged between the Jaws l*` and F to allow et' drawing the wire taut around the article C.l the same asY above described relative to theband A, and then the terminal of the wire is bent over the eye-l4 `(see dotted lines in Fig. and vis firmlypressed down incontact with the eye by the use of the The tying device shown andidescribed is very simple and durable in construction and can be readily applied and manipulated for drawing the band A or thewire .l tightlyY around the article C and then fastening the free end of the band or wirein'plaee on the corresponding tying plate B or H.
By reference to Fig. l it will be noticed that the 'jaw F ias approximately on a level with .the top of tlie member Bf of the tying Aplate'l atthe time the arm F is in vertical positionso that the terminal of the A can be readily clamped invposition' on the The flanges B3 are preferably provided on their inner faces with struck-up projec- 7e tiens adapted to take. a firm hold of the band A when pressed in. contact withy the same to allow of cutting off the band-inter". mediate the tying'plate B and the jaws F,
F2 to allow of bending the band end back -fia over the flanges B1x and without danger of the band slipping in the tying plate,
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A tying device for use yon a band attached at one end to a tying plate, comprisamV ingan angular holder ,adapted to fit onto an angular tying plate Iand having in' one member an opening for the reception of the 35 I -member of the holder and provided with a jaw, and a jaw rlever fulcrumed on the said arm and having a jaw, the said jaws when closed being in alinement with the said opening and' being adapted to clamp the free end of the band between the jaws, the said lever serving'as a handle to swing the arm outward to draw4 the free end of the band through the receiving end of the tying plate.
3. .A tying device fonuse on a band attached at one end to an angular tying plate, comprising an angular holder adapted'to lit 11G -onto the tying plateand having one member provided with anopening for the reception ofthe receiving end of the tyinfr.
plate, an'arm mounted to swing outware y on the other member of the holder' and ro? 115 vided with-a jaw, a jaw level' fulcrumey ou the said arm and having a jaw, the said jaws when closed being'in alineinent with thesaidopening and being'adapted to clamp the free end ofthe vband between the jaws, im) the said lever serving'A asfa handle to swing the arm outward to draw't'he free end otrtheband through-.the receivingend ofthe tying plate, vand a closing device mounted on the holder and adapted to extend over the said- %",y
opening to close the receiving end of the'- holder while the free end of the band is held 'taut by the said jaws.
1i. -A tying device-for use on a band at. tache'd at one end `to an angular tying plate 180 ies presided with a receiving end for the reveption of the loose end ot the hund, coin'- prising un ungulur holder fitting on the said tying plate und having un openingY for the reveption of the Suid receiving end ot' the tviug plute, drawing nieuns mounted on the sind holder for drawing the fre" end of the bund through the said receivingl end, und eli/sing ineuns mounted on the smid' holder for closing the smid receiving` end of the tying plete., Y I
tying device for use on u mind ntirihet :it one end to :in angular tying plate, sconiprising an angular holder adapted to lit onto the tying plate and'huving one member provided with an opening for the reception of the receiving end ot the tying plate, :in 111m mounted to swing outward on the other member of the holder and nromme@ vided with a jaw, a janv leverfulcrumed on the said :mn und having n jew, the said jaws when closed being in nlinement with the said opening und being adapted to clamp the free end of the band between the jaws, the said lever serving us u handle to swing the :inn outward to drow the free end of the'band through the receiving end of the tying plate, und u hund lever mounted to swing on the slotted Ineniber of the holder and having n die adapted to engage the receiving end of the. plate to close the said receiving end.
n testimony whereof I have signed my nume to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
