WASHING-MACHINE.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, DAVID A. PRows, a citizen of the United States, relling at Castlegate, in the county of Carbon and State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lashing-Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. This invention relates to new and useful improvements in washing machines, and has for one of the objects to provide a device whereby the clothes will be reciprocated within the tub. g I

A further object of this invention is to provide an efiicient means for reciprocating the clothes as above stated.

A still further object of this invention is to provide a two-part tub, forming two separate compartments by a suitable partition.

This partition isprovided with means and also the body walls of the tub for removing the dirt from the clothes.

A still further object of this invention is to provide a hand power operating mechanism whereby the rubbers may be reciprocated.

A further object of this invention is to provide a washing machine of theabove stated character which shall be simple, durable, and eliicient, which may be operated with comparatively little physical effort, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.

Vith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter describedand claimed, and fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein,

The vertical rollers 10 also provide a vertical rubbing surface for having their upper surfaces the clothes when they'are being reciprocated within the tub 1. What I claim is:

1. A washing machine comprising a semicylindrical tub, said tub providedwith a curved body wall, a pair of head or end walls secured to said curved body wall, means for supporting said tub, a plurality of longitudinal slats secured to the inner surfaces of the curved body wall, a transverse strip secured to the center of said curved body wall adjacent the bottom thereof, said transverse strip provided with a plurality of sockets in the upper edge thereof, a second transverse strip secured adjacent the top edges of said curved body walls and in vertical alinement with the first transverse strip, said second transverse strip provided with a plurality ,of sockets in the lower edge thereof, a plurality of rods provided with reduced ends adapted to be journaled within the sockets of bothof said transverse strips providing means whereby said rods may rotate in either direction, a top hingedly secured to said tub, a pair of rubbers reciprocally mounted within said tuband adapted to be supported by the top, and means for reciprocating said rubbers.

2. A washing machine comprising a substantially semicylindrical tub, a transverse partition secured within the said tub, a plurality of longitudinal slats secured to the curved body walls of said tub, means for reinforcing said transverse partition,means for supporting said tub, means for securing said substantially semicylindrical tubtogether, a top hingedly secured to the said substantially semicylindrical tub, said top provided with a plurality of elongated slots, said slots being in longitudinal alinement with each other, a plurality of bearings secured to the said top adjacent the edges of said elongated slots, a pair of U-shaped supporting levers adapted to oscillate within said bearings and extending downwardly through the elongated slots in said top, a

pair of rubbers secured to the lower ends of said U-shaped supporting levers, the upper ends of said U-shaped supporting levers being bent to form crank members, means for oscillating said U-shaped supporting levers, and means for locking the top' to said tub.

3. A washing machine comprising a substantially semicylindrical tub, means for supporting said tub, means for securing said tub together, means for partitioning said tub into two compartments, corrugated surfaces formed within said tub, a top hingedly secured to said tub, said top provided with a plurality of elongated slots therein, a pluof said U-shaped supporting levers, a plurality of brackets secured longitudinally of the top adjacent the hinged end thereof, said brackets provided with bearings on the upper surfaces thereof, one of said brackets provided with a second bearing on one of the sides thereof, one of said brackets being of shorter height and provided with a hearing on the upper end thereof and in alinement with the bearing formed on the side ofone of said brackets, a compound crank shaft rotatably mounted in the bearings on said bracket, means for rotating the shaft, means for connecting the said compound shaft with said crank members, and means for locking said top to said tub.

A washing machine comprising a substantially semicylindrical tub, means for supporting said tub, means for securing said tub together, means for partitioning said tub intotwo compartments, a top hingedly secured to said tub,=said topprovided with a plurality of elongated slots therein, a plurality of bearings secured to said top adjacent the elongated slots, a pair of U-shaped supporting levers adapted to oscillate in said bearings and pass downwardly through said elongated slots, a pair of rubbers secured to the ends of said U-shaped supporting levers, a crank member formed on the upper end of each of said U-shaped members, a plurality of brackets secured to said tub, a compound crank shaft journaled in said brackets, a pair of connecting rods adapted to connect the outer cranks of the compound crank shaft to said crank members, means for rotating said compound crank shaft, and means for locking said top to said tub.

5. A washing machine comprising a substantially semicylindrical tub, means for 'supporting said tub, means for securing said tub together, means for partitioning said tub into two compartments, a top hingedly secured to said tub, a pair of U-shaped supporting levers adapted to be supported by said top and the lower ends adapted to extend thereth-rough, a pair of rubbers secured to the lower ends of said U-shaped supporting levers, a pair of crank members formed on the upperends of said U-shaped supporting levers, a compound .crank shaft journaled upon said top, means for connecting said crank members to the compound crank shaft, a U-shaped bracket secured to one edge of said top, a cylindrical member pivotally secured to said U-shaped bracket, a flange formed on, one side of said cylindrical member and provided with a plurality of apertures therein, a pitman adapt- Intestimony'whereof I aflix my signafiure ed to bejournaled Within said apertures and in presence of two Witnesses. connected to the center crank of said compound crank arm forming means whereby V DAVID PROWS' said rubbers may be reciprocated Within the Witnesses:
