Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented Aug. re, 1915.
Application filed October 28, 1914. Serial No. 869,043.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it konwn that I, RAY P. SArroLD, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Covers orlCases for Take-Down Guns; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to cases for take down guns and has for its object to provide a more convenient casing for this purpose than has been heretofore proposed.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel details of construction and combinations of parts more fully hereinafter disclosed and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification in which 'like numerals designate like parts in all the views :--Figure 1 is a side elevational view illustrating one embodiment of my invention with the taken-down gun barrel and Fig 2 is a similar and carrying the assembled gun; Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows; and Fig. 4 is a detached fragmentary view showing a slightly modified means of closing one end of the'main casing.
Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates an open-ended main case adapted to carry the assembled gun and from which the barrel 2 and stock 3 may project as shown in Fig. 2; a strap 1 being secured at the entrance end of said case for wrapping around the projecting stock and engaging a buckle 100 on the case to securely retain the gun in position.
A ocket 5 having a closing flap 6 is provided on the inner wall of said main case for carrying the taken-down gun barrel; any suitable means, for example, buttons 7 and .8 and button holes 9 and 10, may be provided for closing the open ends of the main case when carrying the gun in its taken-down condition.
An aum'liary case 11 provided with a closing flange 12 for carrying the taken-down gun stock is flexibly connected to one edge of the main case 1 as by strips 13 of leather main case 1' and Improvements in canvas, or other suitable material. The auxiliary case 11 is adapted to fold over the detachable connections, such as snap buttons 1 1 and sockets 15 are provided along the free edges of the flexibly connected cases for securing the latter in folded position. An exterior pocket 16 provided with a closing flange 17 is provided on the outer wall of the auxiliary case 11 for carrying a gun cleaner, or other desired article.
A pair of straps, or slings, 18 encircle-the main case 1 and carry rings 19 adapted to register with rings 20 on the free edge of the auxiliary case 11 in the folded position of the latter; a carrying strap 21 being provided with snap hooks 22 for engaging said rings 19 and 20 for securing the cases in folded position and supporting the latter. The cases 1 and 11 are also provided on their free edges with rings 23 and 2e respectively adapted to be similarly engaged by snap hooks 25 of a strap handle 26.
In addition to the rings 19 I provide on the other edge of the casing 1 and preferably on the strip 13 the rings 190, which may receive the snap hooks 22, when it is desired to support the said casing from that edge. I also provide between the rings 190, the rings 230 to be used instead of the rings 28 and the hooks 25 may be snapped herein when it is desired to place the strap 26 on the other edge of said casing 1. As illustrated, the strap 21 is provided with a buckle 102 and with a snap hook 103 and ring 104:.
In the modified view shown in Fig. 1, 105 represents a heavy wide strap or member, attached to one side of the end of main casing 1, and adapted to fold up and over said end and be secured thereto by any suitable means such as the button like means 107 and vhole 108. The purpose of the member is 1. A cover for take-down guns comprising a main case for the assembled gun; a pocket on the mner wall of said case for the taken-down barrel; an auxiliary case for ,thehgm; stoek flexibly attached along one edge to said main case and adapted to'fold over the latter and means for adjustably se- .7 curing, together the'free edges of said main and auxiliary cases ii -such folded position..
- 2'. A cover for take-down guns comprising,
an open-ended main 1 case for theassenibl'ed gun ;a pocket on the inner wall of said case for the taken-down gun barrel; means vfor closing. the ends of said main caseindependent means for closing said interior pocket;- an auxiliary-case 'for the gun stock flexibly attached along on'e'edgeto said main case and adapted to fold over the latter; and deke-down gan co p n ed to be wrapped around the projecting gun stock; a pocket on'the'innerwall of said case for the taken-down gun barrel; an auxmeans for iliary case-for the gun stock flexibly attached.
-.a10ng one edge to said main case and adapt .ed to fold over the latter; and detachable securing said cases in such folded 7 position. i
Y L- A cover down gun barrel; an auxiliary case for the to said main case and adapted to fold over "the latter; rings on the freeedges' of said flexibly-attached cases; and a handle proj vided with snap hooks adapted to engage "'saidringsfor securing said cases in their folded position and supporting the latter.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature,'in presence of two Witnesses.
