To all 'ZO/L'OHL it may concern Be it known that I,J.un-:s F. Tionn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Drainboards for Sinks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form-a part of this specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a drain-board for kitchen sinks so constructed that the drain-board when in use is supported independently of, and preferably spaced from, the sink, and which is capable when not in use, of being moved away from the sink and there maintained in its normal horizontal position and also of being folded down toward or against the wall.

Fig. i is a similar view with the drain board swung into the position it may occupy when not in use. Fig. 5 is a plan View, with the drain board in the same position as in Fig. 4.

The sink a is of ordinary construction, having an upright splash-plate or wall-protector b at the rear, and is rigidly supported by brackets c.

The drain-board e, per so, is of the usual construction, but is supported and made movable by the following construction. Secured at the rear edge of the bottom of the drain board are hinges 7, which are slidable and turnable upon pivot rods 9 extending between ears h attached to the front lower edge of aledge (Z secured to the wall.

Attached to the wall below ledge (Z is an ear between which and the ledge (l is turnably supported a bracket /r having a horizontally extending arm adapted to swinggt'orward into the position shown in Figs-t 1. at and n are abutments or pins adapted to cooperate with the bracket 7. as hm'cinafter described. It will be noted that the pins are spaced apart, measuring along the length of the drain-board, and that pin m is located a greater distance hack of the front edge of the d rain-board than is pin 12.

Assuming that the drain-board is'in operative position relative to the sink,'it will be noted that the discharge end of the drainboard overlies one edge of the sink and is spaced. therefrom in a" vertical "direction. The bracket 7.: has been swung out and extends at right angles to the wall. abutting against the pin m and supporting the drain board horiwmtally. From this position the drain board may be moved to the right. as shown in broken lines, Fig 1, the pin m sliding the bracket 7.' into the broken-line position shown. The bracket 7: is still in position to support the drain-board, which therefore remains in horizontal position, although spaced from and out of operative relation with the sink.

By again noting the full-line operative it will be observed that even if the supporting bracket is is swung independently toward the rear, it will abut against the pin a and cannot, therefore, be moved out of support ing position, so that it is impossible for the drain-board to fold down against the sink. \Vhen it is desired to restore the drainboard to operative position, it is swung up on its pivot rods. the bracket is then swung out against pin 11!. and then the drain-boardv is pushed to the left into the full-line position shown in Fig. l; the bracket, also, if desired. being moved against the pin m so that it assumes a position at right angles to the supporting plate 0.

.l v the foregoing construction. there is no joint between the sink and drain-board in which dirt can collect and all parts of the sink and drain-hoard may be maintained clean and sanitary. It will be noted that the downwardl v-extcnding lip at the discharge end of the drain-b mrd is conveXly curved, so that water will drop of? the end of same and cannot run back along the bottom of the drain-board. The drain-board, when not in use, occupies virtually no space and is entirely out of the way. The construction is such that it may be readily and inexpensively adapted to existing construc- I erative position when the drain-board is slid to one of its horizontal positions.

The combination with a drain-board movable to and from a horizontal position and also slidable when in a horizontal position, of means supporting the drain-board in either horizontal position but adapted to be moved out of supporting position when the drain-board is moved toward one position, and an abutment on the drain-board locking the supporting means from moving out of operative position when the drainboard is in its other position.

3. .The combination with a drain-board arranged to swing from a vertical position to a horizontal position and also movable longitudinally, of a pivoted bracket ar ranged to swing away from the drain-board to clear the same and allow it to swing down into a vertical position and also to'swing under the drain-board to support it in horizontal position when either in or out of its normally operative longitudinal position and an abutment on the drain board adapted to lock the bracket from swinging away from supporting position when the drainboard is in said position but adapted, when the drain board is moved away from said position, to move into position to allow the bracket to swing away from supporting position.

The combination with a drain-board arranged to swing from a vertical position to a horizontal position and also movable longitudinally of a pivoted bracket arranged to swing away from the drain-board to clear the same and allow it to swing down into a vertical position and also to swing under the drain-board to support it in horizontal position when either in or out of its normally operative longitudinal position, an abutmentable thereon, a bracket pivoted on a vertical axis and having an arm adapted to swing out under the drain board to support it in a horizontal position and in under the ledge to allow the drain board to swing down on its pivot, and an abutment on the drainboard adapted to lock the bracket from swinging out of supporting position except when the drain-board is moved away from its normally operative position.

6. The combination with a horizontal ledge, of a pivot rod along the ledge, a drain board swingable on said rod and also slidable thereon, a bracket pivoted on a vertical axis and having an arm adapted to swing out under the drain board to support it in a horizontal position and in under the ledge to allow the drain board to swing down on its pivot, and two abutments on the drainboard, one nearer than the other to one end and to the. rear edge of the drain board, adapted to cooperate with the bracket substantially as described.
