of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in non-refillable bottles, and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is of an extremely simple and inexpensive construction, and whichhas its parts so constructed and arranged as to'readily provide for the outflow of the contents of the bottle but which will also prevent the fraudulent refilling of the bottle.
"With the above, and other objects in view, which will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a central longitudinal sectional view of a portion of a bottle and a bottle neck showing the device in applied position therein. In the accompanying drawings and referring particularly to Figs. 1, 2 and 3 thereof, the numeral 1 designates a bottle. This bottle may be of any ordinary or preferred structure and is provided with the usual neck 2. The juncture of the neck 2 with the body of the bottle 1 is flared inwardly so as to provide a seat 3 for an upwardly opening hollow semi-spherical valve 4. This valve 1, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings is provided with a rounded upper portion or valve proper and a depending hollow stem 5. The valve 4 is preferably constructed of aluminum or some other light material and is adapted to normally fit snugly upon its seat 3.
The bottle neck is provided with oppositely arranged depressions 6, and the said depressions are adapted to receive the lips or ends of a transversely arranged resilient member 7 which has its body portion positioned within a longitudinal bore or recess 8 of a glass plug 9. This plug 9 is provided with a plurality of openings 10, the same inclining from the outer edge of one of the faces of the said plug toward the center of the opposite or lower face of the plug, and the ing with the hollow stem 5.

or head substantially cup-shaped and is provided with a-central opening communicat- The openings 10 are arranged so as to have their lower portions adjacent the post 11, and it will be noted that should any attempt be made to force liquid through the said openings the same will be directed to the cup-shaped head 1 and the hollow stem 5 of the valve so as to more effectively seat the valve. It is to be further understood that the valve, being constructed of some very light material is susceptible to the slightest pressure and should any attempt be made to force the liquid within the bottle through the medium of a pump or the like the valve will quickly become seated. It will be further noted that by arranging the openings or passages 10 as above described, it will be impossible to raise the valve through the medium of an inserted wire as the opening provided by the stem 5 is only slightly greater than the cross sectional diameter of the post 11, and it is hardly probable that the wire could be bent so as to engage the outer edges of the head of the valve 4:, as the said head is spaced only a slight distance from the edge of the bottle neck.
The outer extremity of the neck 2 may be provided with vertical slots or ways 12 through which the offset fingers of the resilient member 7 may travel when the plug 9 is being inserted within the depression 6. The plug 9 is positioned a suitable distance away from the mouth of the bottle, so that a cork 13 may be readily inserted when the bottle is transported or when the bottle is not in use.
It is to be understood that the valve 4; does not occupy all of the seat 3, and furthermore, that the hollowstem is adapted to have its end engaged by the post 11, when the bottle is tilted to retain the said valve a suitable distance away from the block 9, so as to permit of a free outflow of the liquid from the bottle through the openings 10.
From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be noted that I have provided an extremely simple and thoroughly effective device for the purpose intended, and while I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of the improvement, as it now;
appears to me, minor details of construction, within the scope of the following claim may be resorted to if desired.
Having thus fully described the invention, What I claim as new is In combination, a bottle neck having a pair of oppositely arranged vertical slots terminating at their lower ends into depressions having a depth greater than said slots, an apertured plug having a depending post, a valve cooperating therewith, and a flat rectangular resilient member passing through said plugand having its extremities free of said plug and bent upwardly at an angle so 15 as to be resiliently bent toward said plug when passing down said slot and to spring into the depressions when the plug reaches its final position.
