To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LUCY BIGGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtains and Fastening Means, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to curtains and fastening means therefor and has for its object to provide what may be termed a half curtain which is particularly adapted for hospital purposes and is sanitary.
A further object of the invention is to provide a triangular-shaped curtain having means associated with its lower ends for fixedly securing the same in position and which is employed for use in connection with one half of a window, two curtains being necessary for the use with a complete window, and overcoming the objection present in a square curtain when draping the bottom as in such instance the bottomwill be quite bulky and forms means for collecting dirt.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arnngement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views :F'igure 1 is an elevation of a curtain show'ing'the adaptation therewith of a pair of curtains in accordance with this invention. 'Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of one form of securing means for the smaller or lower end of a curtain. Fig. 3 is an edge elevation and Fig. 4: the top plan of a stop member illustrated in Fig. 2. Figs. 5, 6, and 7 are views of a modified form of securing means.
Referring to the drawings in detail the curtain comprises :a triangular shaped body 1, having the larger end thereof formed with a hem 2 and the smaller end provided with a hem 3. The larger end is the top while the smaller end is the bottom of a curtain. Through the hem 2 is adapted to extend a it Specification of Iiettersiatent. .Patentgd Aug, L Application filed January 19, Serial No. 3,082.
rodoi' other suitable means for securing the upper end of a curtain in position with respect to the windowl Associated with the lower end of the curtain 1 is a securing means and one form of securing means is illustrated in Figs. 2, 3 and 4, and which consists of a pair of stop members each comprising a plate 4 having connected thereto a vertically disposed inverted hook-shaped arm 5 and associated with the arm 5 is a spring controlled retaining bar 6 which is hinged to the plate 4 as at 7, and is engaged by a spring 8 for normally maintaining the bar 6 in engagement with the bill of the hook 5. The spring 8 has one end secured to the plate 4: as at 9 and its other end bears against the bar 6. The securing member further includes a rod 10 having removable caps 11 and said rod 10 is adaptedto extend through the hem 3, as illustrated in Fig. 1, and also through a pair of stop members. The hooks 5 arrest vertical movement of the lower end of a curtain. When the rod 10 is arranged in position, the caps are arranged exteriorly of the hooks 5. The plates 4: have openings 12 for the passage of hold fast devices for securing said plates 4 to the window sill.
In the form shown in Fig. 5 a bar 13 is provided having removable caps 14: and said bar 13 is adapted to extend through the hem 3 and be positioned in a pair of stop members and each of which consists of a base 15 adapted to be secured to a window silland said base 15 terminates in a shank 16, which merges into a clamping head 17. The bar 13 extends through the clamping head 17 and the, latter arrests upward movement of the lower end of the curtain.
I What I claim is 2- 1. The combination with a curtain having the lower end thereof formed with a hem, of a bar extending through said hem and having each end provided with a cap, and a pair of stationary stop members through which said bar extends, said members arranged inwardly with respect to said caps.
2. The combination with a curtain having the lower end thereof formed with a hem, of a bar extending through said hem and having each end provided with a cap, and a pair of stationary stop members through which said bar extends, said members arranged inwardly with respect to said caps,
each of said. stop members including a said bar for limiting the upward movement 10 hinged spring controlled element capable of thereof.
