Original application filed April 3, 1912, Serial No. 688,207? Divided and this Serial No. 751,609. 2 i
Serial Number 688,207, filed April 3, 1912 for improvements in ironing tables, and
hence this application forms a division of said pending application. I
One object of the invention 1s to provide an attachment'of'* this kind that may be attached to an ironing table without the ne.
cessity of employing means or parts additional to those comprising the attachment, whereby the necessity of using accessory hardware and a specially; constructed table to accommodate its use, is avoided.
Another object of theinvention is to provide such an attachment as 'is constructed to cooperate with an inclined support of a table from which it receives its support.
A further object of the invention is to provide means whereby the tray or attachment may be widened'if necessary, depending upon the width o-fthe ironing-board of the table in connection with which it is used.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a device of this kind that is simple in construction, efiicient in operation, durable in use and inexpensive to manufacture.
The preferred embodimentof the invention is illustrated in drawings accompanying this application and described hereinafter.
In said drawings, Figure l is-a side elevation illustrating the attachment in connection with an ironing table; Fig. 2 is "a perspective View of the attachment; Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view, partly in section illustrating the specific manner in which the tray is attached to the inclined support of a table; and Fig. 4: is a transverse sectional view taken on such a plane as indicated by Specification of Letters Patent.
application is shown and described in my pending application tl e lines l l of Fig l, and showing the -.h1-nged.s1de elements in their folded position.

Like reference characters designate like,
or similar parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
Referring specifically to the drawings, a
first or main sectionis provided consisting of a plurality of longitudinal boards or members 1. The bars 2 are located between -members 1 and extend beyond said members 1 at oneend thereof. The bars 2 and members 1 are connected by the transverse fastening bars 3, which are attached to the members 1 adjacent the ends thereof. 'The boards 1 and bars 2 are fastened in any suitmeans: of nails at 1.
able manner to the bars 3, for instance by 'The portions-of the bars 2 extending'beyond the boards 1 are specifically designated 5 and are separated as shown by the intermediacy of thecentral board 1. Extending transversely of the projecting portions 5 as shown, and removably extending through openings therein, is f a transverse fastening rodor member 6 atone end of which may 'beprovided an eye or handle 7.
Tl1e' tray or attachment as shown in the drawings, is adapted for attachment to an I ironing "table, although it is to be under? stood'that the same maybe attached to any suitable structure of table or other article.
The table specificallyshown, corresponds to I that shown in my pending, application #688,207 referredto and has thereon an in-{ clined support or'member designated 8. i
Inuse, the attachment is adapted to 00-.
operate with :said inclined support as the means for its attachment. In attaching the tray to said support, the'transverse fastening rod or member, 6 is removed from en gagement with the projecting portions 5 and thereupon the tray is so placed rela- I tively to thesupport .8, that the support is received between said'pro ecti-ng portions.
Thereupon pin 6 is returned to position in the apertures in extensions 5.; The tray is maintained in. place by friction which is increased by the weight or articles which may be contained thereon. Specifically the rod or pin Gbites or frietionally engages against the under surface of the prop 8, and
the adjacent corner or edge of the central I member l'which'may be specifically desig- I nated 9, bites or engages the upper face of the support 8. Should it be desired to adjust the tray vertically, the same may be tilted so that the edge 9 and rod 6 will be moved out of frictional engagement with the support 8 and thereupon the tray can be moved vertically to the proper height and then released so that the rod or pin 6 and edge 9 will engage the prop as before and be securely supported thereby.
Inasmuch as the width of the ironingboards of various ironing tables are different, it is desirable in some instances of having the tray of greater or less width. To accomplish this end the main section has pivotally secured thereto foldable side sections generally designated 10 which may be folded over or extended to provide the proper dimensions with respect to the table. These side sections comprise the board members 11 and blocks or bars 12. The pivot means comprise the hinges 13 which are fastened to the blocks 12 and to the bars 3.
As shown in the drawings, specifically Fig. 4, the ironing-board of the table. is designated 14: and is of practically the same width as the main section. This being the case it would not be desirable for the side sections to be projected so that they would extend beyond the longitudinal edges of the board. In such a position these side sections would interfere with the operator in moving around the table. In such an instance, the side sections are folded inwardly so that the blocks 12 rest upon the bars 3. However should the device be employed in connection with a table having a board wider than that shown in the drawings, a tray of greater width of course could be employed and in such an instance the side sections 11 would of alteration of any parts whatever of the A ironing table.
Changes such as fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims are reserved.
Having thus described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The combination with an ironing table and a support therefor of unbroken continuity in outline, of a tray capable of being positioned on said support at any point thereof by gripping engagement therewith at a pair of oppositely disposed points.
2. The combination with an ironing table and a support therefor having an unbroken continuity of outline, of a tray capable of being frictionally positioned at any point on said support, said tray including longitudinal members forming the bottom, rods spacing said members and extending therebeyond at one end to embrace said support, and means removably carried by said rods at their extremities to frictionally engage said support at a point opposed to a simi lar point of engagement made by said tray proper with said support.
In testimony whereof I my signature in presence of two witnesses.
