CUTTING AND PASTING TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 13, 1914.
Application filed October 2, 1912. Serial No. 723,563.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JOHN B. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alta, in the county of Buena Vista and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Tmprovements'in Cutting and Pasting Tables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to paper hangers cutting and pasting tables and one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will 'be provided with foldable legs adapted to hold the straight edge and cutting zinc on the underneath side of the table when folded and which carries means for supporting the straight edge in a convenient position to the operator when the table is set up in operative position.
A further object of the invention is to provide a folding table of the class described having drawers carried thereby so that the paper hanger may have all of his tools conveniently arranged when thetable is set up for use.
Further objects of this invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part ofthis application and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the table in open position showing the drawers partially open. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view showing the legs in folded position. Fig. 3 is a similar View showing the legs in unfolded position.
Referring more particularly to the drawing 1 represents a table top which is provided with suitable flanges 2 depending from the sides thereof and with a central longitudinal reinforcing rib 3. The flanges 2 are provided with suitable guiding ribs as shown and there is mounted upon each end of the table parallel with the ribs a supporting board 4 also provided with ribs adapted to engage the grooves 5 formed in the drawers 6 as will be readily understood. Extending across the table on the underside thereof at opposite ends of the reinforcing rib 3 are shafts 7 which have secured thereto and extending at right angles therefrom the supporting legs 8. These supporting legs are held in raised position by brace rods 9 which are pivoted to the leg and have a right angular extension at thelr free ends to engage retaining eyes 10 secured to the underneath side of the table. The shafts 7 are preferably of oblong cross section and have one side positioned adjacent the bottom of the board when they are in raised position. When the legs are folded one nar row edge or side will'be presented to the bottom'of the board and will act in the capacity of a cam to hold the straight edge 11 and the cutting zinc 12 in position thereon as shown in Fig. 2. Each leg on one side of the table is provided with'hooks 13 which are adapted to receive the straight edge 11 in the position shown in Fig. 1. When the legs are in raised position the shafts will not bind on the straight edge and cutting zinc and these members may be removed and placed in position as shown in Fig. 1. While the table is in operative position the straight edge is supported in the hooks 13 as will be readily understood so as to be convenient for the operator when it is necessary to use this implement. All tools such as cutting shears, seam rollers and brushes may be readily contained in the drawers 6. When it is desired to use the board for pasting thirty inch paper I provide suitable brackets 14 upon which a one-half board may be placed. This board may be supported'beneath the table in a similar manner to the zinc and straight edge already described.
What is claimed is 1. A paper hangers table comprising a top depending side flanges carried there-' j ournaled in said side flanges and having an against the underneath side of the table oblong cross section intermediate their ends, When in closed position. 10 legs secured to such shafts and adapted to In testimony whereof I afiix my signature fold on the top, rods pivoted to the legs, in presence of tWo Witnesses.
eyes carried by the table for receiving the JOHN B. SMITH. ends of the rods whereby the legs Will be Witnesses:
held in open position, said shafts adapted to G. F. TINOKNELL,
bind a straight edge and a cutting zinc M. A. CAVANAUGH.
