HENRY P. KRAFT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., AND MAXIMILIAN CHARLES SCHWEINERT, 0F WEST HOIBOKEN, NEW JERSEY.
CAP FOR FOUNTAIN-SYBINGES OR THE LIKE.
Specification ofLetters Patent.
Patented July 113, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HENRY P. KRAFT,
residing in the borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, city and State of New York, and MAXIMILIAN CHARLEs SGIIWEINERT, residing in Vest Hoboken, in the countyof Hudson and State of New Jersey, both c tl- Zens of the United States, have jointly 1nvented certain new and useful Improvements in Caps for Fountain-Syringes or the like, of which the following is a specification.
In a. prior application filed by us on May 22, 1908, No. 434,352, we have described and claimed a cap for fountain syringes, Water bottles or the like, which is constructed of sheet metal in several parts. exemplified in a fountain syringe nozzle comprises a body portion adapted to screw into a water bottle or fountain syringe socket, a retaining device for the packing washer below such body portion comprising an annular plate fastened to the bottom of such body portion, an extension on the top of the body portion adapted to form a handle or finger hold and a nipple to.
which the fountain syringe tube may be attached.
The present invention relates to a cap or the like of this type constructed in one piece, the article being cast or molded of metal, rubber or the like. Certain other features of improvement will be hereinafter referred to.
Referring to the drawings illustrating one form of the invention, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a syringe nozzle made in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a top or plan view. Fig. 3 is a bottom view. Fig. 4. is a longitudinal section taken on the line H in Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a similar section taken on the line. 5-5 in Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, let A indicate the cap as a whole which, as shown, is provided with a screw-threaded body portion B, and an upward extension C which is adapted to form a handle or finger hold by which the cap may be screwed into and out of its socket. \Vhen the invention is applied to a fountain syringe, the extension C is provided with a nozzle or nipple D designed to engage a suitable tube or the Each side of the extension C is constructed with a concave face E E, such;
Such cap as ter grip for the fingers upon the extension so that the operations of screwing and unscrewing may be facilitated.
The body portion B is provided at its lower end with"a seating face F for the gasket orv packing Washer G. This washer is held in place by an integral hollow extension H having a lower flange T, the packing washer being annular in form and embracing the extension H and the flange I underlying the bottom of the washer and holding the same securely in place.
Accordin to the present invention, the entire cap givith the exception of the packing washer) is made of one-piece of metal or other suitable material. As formerly constructed the body and its upward extension have been made of sheet metal joined together at a point corresponding to the flange J at the top K of the body. The extension H and flange I have also been made in two parts. The assembling and uniting of the several parts of the stopper have heretofore taken considerable time which is not necessary in the present construction. Several additional piecesare also saved. The cap of the present invention may be cast in one piece as illustrated, or it may be formed of rubber, either molded or blown into proper shape. The advantages of this construction are apparent. The entire structure being made of one piece is not dependent upon any joints for its efficiency, is not liable to leakage and requires fewer operations to manufacture.
lVhen the invention is applied to a stopper the nozzle D is, ofcourse, omitted and the extension C closed at its upper end. By reason of the absence of joints such a stopper may be constructed with its bottom wall open, for the reason that if water from the bottle should pass into the stopper it would be of no detriment since it could not leak out through the walls thereof. \Vhenthe bottle is held upright to remove the stopper, any water contained in the latter will, of course, run back into the bottle.
Although we have shown and described one form of our invention, we do not wish to be limited thereto as certain variations may be made therein without departing from the invention. It will also be understood that, while we have described our invention with relation to a fountain syringe concave face being provided to secure a bet 0 n zl it is applicable to other caps.
with a downwardly extending hollow neckhaving an integral outwardly extending flange at its lower end adapted to form, with the underside of the body portion, a retaining recess for a flat washer having a central perforation, said bottom being formed integrally with said body-portion and said neck being formed integrally witlrsaid bottom, and said hollow finger piece having an integrally formed hollow extension, constituting a nipple and'adapted to receive the end of a hose or the like, said cap having an opening therethrough from its bottom to its top.
2. A. cap for water bottles comprising a hollow exteriorly-tln'eaded body portion,
said body portion having a flat bottom with a downwardly extending hollow neck having an integral outwardly extending flange at its lower end adapted to form, with the under side of the body portion, a retaining recess for aflat washer having a central perforation, said bottom being formed integral with thebody portion, and said neck being formed integral with said bottom, and said cap having an integral upwardly extending nipple adapted to receive the end of a hose or the like, and said cap having an opening therethrough from its bottom to its top. y
In Witness whereof, we have hereunto signed our names in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HENRY P- KRAFT. MAXIMILIAN CHARLES SCHWEINER'P.
