to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and to the reference numerals marked thereon.
My present invention relates to store furniture and has for its object to provide a simple, neat and attractive display rack or stand such as is used in store windows and on counters to attractively expose small articles, more particularly, for public view.
A further object of the invention is to provide a knock-down fixture of this nature that may be easily taken apart or assembled, and the improvements" are more particularly directedv to the arrangements and devices employed for holding the parts together.
To these and other'ends the invention consists in certain improvements and combinations of parts all as will be hereinafter more fully described, the novel features being pointed out in the claim at the end of the specification. v
In the drawingsLFigure 1 is a perspective view of a display rack constructed in accordance with and illustrating one embodiment of my invention, and F ig.- 2 is a detail enlarged section taken substantially on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Similar reference numerals throughout the several figures indicate the same parts.
A device constructed in accordance with my invention comprises generally a supporting standard A and one or more platforms or tables B extending transversely thereof at intervals throughout its length. Two standards may be employed at a distance apart and connected by one or more of the tables B, as shown in Fig. 1, each standard supporting one end of the table, and also,
if desired, smaller tables disconnected from the other standard. In either case, each standard comprises a plurality of sections 1, 2, 3 and t superposed one upon the other, end to end, each section being equal in length to the distance desired between two adjacent platforms These latter are interposed and held between. the ends of the adjacent sections in the following manner: The end of one section, in the present Specification of Letters Patent.
section will be in the same rammed July a, rare.

instance the lower section 1, for instance, is provided with a socket 5. and the other with a recess 6 alined therewith and preferably provided with a threaded bushing 7.
, Tightly fitting within the socket 5 is a dowel pin 8 that has a threaded portion 9 projecting from the end of the section 1 through an aperture 10 in the platform B and threaded into the recess 6 so that the upper section 2 may be drawn down tightly and the plat form will be clamped between the end faces of the two sections, which result is obtained by rotating one section relatively to the other.
If the standards and the sections thereof are made cylindrical in form, it, of course, does not matter at what point one is stopped with regard to its rotative relation to the other when the parts are screwed together, but when the sections are prismatic or reetangular in cross section, for instance, as shown, it is desirable that when they are assembled the corresponding faces of each or parallel planes. Yet the length ofv the threaded dowel 9 cannot be regulated to nicely bring about this result and at the same time assure a tight engagement of either section against the intermediate platform. I,' therefore, make allowance for the rotation of one section relatively to the other after the threaded dowel has been screwed 'home, and, in the present instance, I simply fit the lower end 8 thereof tightly within its socket5 so that it is frictionally held both against longitudinal removal and rotary movement with normal manipulations of the rack and of the other parts thereof, but this frictional clamping of the pin in its socket may be overcome by an abnormal efio'rt to properly aline the faces of the sections.
A rack constructed in accordance with my present invention is neat and simple and shows no outward evidences of a knockdown construction, yet it may be stored within small compass and being readily taken. apart its platforms or tables may be interchanged at will and its design as a whole thereby varied. The standards and tables may be made of any suitable material, but li prefer wood for the standards and glass for the tables.
I claim as invention:
in adispiay device. the combination with a shelf, of a standard supporting the shelf comprising upper and lower wocden sections of similar angular cross section arranged above and below the same, a threaded bushing secured in one of the sections and having its outer end flush with. the end of said section forming .a 'fl'at face continuous with the end ofthe section for engagement with the shelf, the other section having a cylindrical socket in its end, a threaded dowel pin of circular cross section having one end frietionally held in said socket, the outside diameter of the dowel pin being subto enable its being turned Within the socket,
the other end of the dowel pin engaging the aforementioned bushing, and the-shelf 15 between the sections havingan opening to' receive the dowel pin.
