Application led September 24, 1913, Serial No. 791,633. 'Renewed March 16, 1915. Serial No. 14,752.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, CHARLES B. MILLS, a
subject of the King of Great Britain, resid? ing at ValleyvView avenue, Gardenville, in the State of Maryland, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cable-Connectors, of which the following is aspecification.
This invention relates to improvements in cable connectors and has particular appli.V
cation to a device of this class whereby the adjacent ends of cable-sections may be rapidly and efectively joined vor connected` In carrying out the present invention, it is my purpose to provide a cable connector which will be constructed in such manner that the ends of the cable sections will be eiectively and eiciently connected or joined without resorting to the use of tape and the like.
It is also my purpose to provide a connector of the class described which will embody companion sections so formed that any one section of cable may be connected to any other section without changing the connector sections at the ends thereof, thereby providing a connector which is universal in practice. I
Furthermore, I aim to provide a connector which will embrace the desired features of simplicity, efliciency and durability, n one In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1v is a top plan view of a connector constructed in accordance with my present invention, the same being shown as applied to the meeting nends of cable sections. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view in side elevation of the connector, and Fig. 4 is a setionalview on the line 4 4 of Fig. 3.
Referring now to the accompanying drawing in deta11, the numerals 1, 1 designate the adjacent ends of two cable sections, such sections being of the duplex type and cachembodylng two parallel conductors 2, 2.
My improved connector comprises comthe adjacent end of the respective conductor 2 and sweated or otherwise fixed thereto.
The outer end of each block 4 is rabbeted as at 8 and the respective ends of the plugs 6 are similarly formed so that -a substantially fiat surface is provided. By means of this construction, it will be seen that the rabbeted end of one block will seat within the similar portion of the other block forming the connector so that when the sections are assembled in connector formation substantially flush surfaces are provided.
The rabbeted portlon of each section composed of the block and plugs is formed `with transverse bolt holes 9 alining with similar interiorly threaded holes 10 formed in the4 =other sections and designed to receive bolts 11 whereby the sections of the connector are secured together.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with thel accompanying drawing, the construction, mode of operation and manner of employing my invention will be readily apparent. It will be seen that I have provided a cable connector wherein the companion sections each has one end fastened to the respective cable end and the opposite end rabbeted and seated within the rabbeted portion of the other section thereby providing fiat surfaces and enabling the sections of the cable to be readily and securely fastened in cable formation.
I claim:
A cable connector comprising companion sections each formed of a block of insulating material having longitudinal bores formed therein vand spaced apart in parallelism,
plugs disposed within saidbores and each sections angl having the heed thereof oounhaving one end thereof formed with a. socket ter-sunk wlthln the sectlons. 10 reoeivmg the adlaeent endrof the oonductor In testmon whereof I aix my signature of the cable, the free end ofeaeh block and in presence o two witnesses.
5 Athe adjaeent extremities of said plugs being CHARLES B. MILI'B. rabbeted and adapted to seat -pon thereby Witnesses: bet'ed end of vtheV other section and jbolts .A E. EnMoNs'roN,'Jr., passed through the rabbeted ends of 'said Jom J. MoCAnm.
