Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J1 une 22, 1915.
Application med December 4., 1914. Serial 1%. states;
enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference .marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. I
Our invention relates to collapsible buildings, boxes, receptacles and other constructions wherein the parts are made separable or removable.
It particularly has for its object to provide a means for securing the parts of such constructions together in such a way that they may be easily placed together or separated and yet, wherein, when they are so placed, they will be securely locked together and durable.
The invention is applicable particularly to inclosing structures, such as chicken coops, portable houses fences, boxes, etc.
The invention may be contained in many forms of constructions usable for diflerent purposes, all of which come within the purview of my claims hereinafter appended. To show the practicability of my invention, l[ have selected one of such constructions as an example and shall describe it hereinafter. The construction selected is illustrated in the accompanying drawings;
Figure 1 of the drawings illustrates a coop or house containing the Invention. Fig. 2 illustrates a corner of the coop. Fig. 3 illustrates a section of the corner shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 shows a modification of the form of the invention illustrated in usual doors 2, 3 and window 4. It is g'ether. The strips are, preferably, rectangular in cross section. The corner portions of the strips 13 and 14 abut against each other. The strip 14 is, preferably, rabbeted, as shown at 15, in Figs. 2 and 3, anda corner of the cleat 13 sets into the rabbeted corner 15-of the cleat 14. block, such as a cast iron block, 16, having channels 17 preferably, right-angular V-shaped extending transverse to the block 16, covers the corners 19 and 20, so that the corners 19 and 20 set into the V- shaped channels 17 and 18. A bolt 20 extends through theblock 16, the corners of the strips 13 and 14, the ends of the boards 11 and 12 and the L-iron 10. The bolt '20 is provided with an angular head 21'which fits over the corner of the lL-iron 10. The bolt 20 is provided with a nut 22 which operates to draw the parts together and tightly bind them.
The siding 12, together with the cleat 14, is thus pulled in to the lL-iron 10. It abuts against the side wall of the L-iron, while at the same time the cleat 14 overlaps two side edges of the cleat 13 so that the cleat 13 tightly fits in, to the rabbeted portion 15 p and at the same time abuts the sides of the ends of the boards 12. The cleats l3 and 14 being located somewhat remote from the line of contact between the ends of the sidings 11 and 12, the angular relation between the sidings 11 and 12 are determined and, moreover, they are strongly maintained by the pressure of the block 16 having the light-angular channels which fit over the corners of the cleats 13 and 14. Furthermore, the side 12, to which is secured the strip 14 having the rabbeted corner fitting over the. corner of the strip 13, overlaps the end of the side 11 which holds the side 11 in position relative to the side 12.
A modification of the invention is shown in Fig. 4 wherein the siding 25 abuts against the sides of the end of the siding 26. A
strip 27 is also secured to the siding 26 and between the end of the siding and the cleat 13. The strip 27 is located between the cleat 13 and the-side of the end of the siding 25. The right-angular relation between the sidings 25 and'26 is determined as before. The end of the siding 25, is held in position by the L-iron .10, and the strip 27, the parts being drawn together by the bolt 20 and its nut 22.
The construction selected and described loo may be greatly varied in the arrangement and manufacture of its parts and in ,the substitution of elements having equivalent functions and such modifications may be used for many varied purposes :and still contain the invention.
side wall, an L-member overlapping the ends of the sidewalls, strips having rectangular cross sections secured to the side walls and near the ends thereof, one of the strips hav- -ing a rabbeted corner fitting over one of the corners of the other strip, a block having right angular V-shaped channels fitting over the inner corners of the strips and a bolt for drawing the L-member and the block together.
2. In a collapsible construction, the combination of side walls, an L-member overlapping the ends of the side walls, a strip secured to each side wall near the end thereof, an iron having channels fitting over the inner edges of the strips, means for drawing the channel member to the L-member 3. In a collapsible structure, the combination of side Walls, an L-melnber overlapping the ends of the side walls, a strip having a rectangular cross section secured near the end of each side wall, one of the strips having a rabbeted corner adapted to fit over one of the corners of the other strip, a block having right angle V-channels fitting over the inner corners of the strips and a bolt for drawing the block and the L-meniber together. I
4. In a collapsible construction, the combination of side walls, a strip secured to each side wall near the end thereof, one of the strips having a rabbeted corner for fitting over the corner of the other of the strips, a
block for locking the inner corners of the strips and means for binding the block and the ends of the walls together.
In testimony whereof, We have hereunto signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
