To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, PATRICK D. SKAHEN, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Corner Construction for Burial- Cases, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has for its object the production of a corner construction for burial cases which is particularly simple in construction, economical of manufacture, and highly efiicient and durable in use; and it consists in the combinations and construe tions hereinafter set forth and claimed.

In describing this invention reference is had to the accompanying drawing in which like characters designate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure l is an elevation of a burial case embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view of a corner thereof. Fig. 3 is a section through the corner thereof.

My corner construction for burial cases comprises, generally, a hollow corner post having an intermediate body portion and lengthwise marginal flanges, the latter being arranged to interlock in reversely arranged grooves at the contiguous edges of two of the walls of the burial case, the body portion of the corner post between the bases of the flanges being arranged to receive the strain from the contiguous edges of the two walls and hold said two walls and the corner post from lateral movement.

1 and 2 designate, respectively, two walls of the burial case, which walls are arranged to form a corner, such walls being usually side and end walls.

In the illustrated form of my invention, the

1 and 2 are formed of sheet metal and are provided at their contiguous ends with outwardly-turned marginal flanges 3 bent in reverse directions into positions opposed to the major parts of the

walls

1, 2 respectively, and thereby forming reverselyarranged grooves.

1, 2 forming the corner, each corner post being formed of sheet metal bent to form an intermediate body portion 5 and inturned flanges 6 extending lengthwise thereof and arranged to enter the grooves formed by the flanges 3, by an endwise sliding movement of the corner post.

The body portion 5 when in position is spaced apart from the flanges 3 of the

walls

1, 2 and engages on opposite sides of its median line, as at 7, with the

walls

1, 2 at the bases of the flanges 3.

Preferably the

walls

1, 2 engage each other as at 8, and hence as the body portion 5 of the corner post is bowed outwardly and en gages said walls as at 7, said walls are firmly held from lateral movement by each other by the body portion of the corner post, without the use of additional fastening means.

The

1, 2 are also usually formed with marginal flanges 9 along their upper and lower edges, the flanges being provided with interleaved flaps as 10, arranged to lap the upper and lower ends of the corner post after the same has been moved into operative position by an endwise sliding movement.

This application is a division of my pending application Sr. No. 358397, filed Feb. 20,1907.

What I claim is:

1. A burial case having each of the meeting ends of two of its walls provided with an external groove, the grooves being reversely-arranged, and a hollow corner post formed of sheet metal and having an intermediate body portion and lengthwise marginal flanges, the latter being interlocked in the grooves, the body portion of the hollow corner post between the bases of the flanges being bowed outwardly and engaging with the end edges of said two walls near the median line of the corner post, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

2. A burial case having each of the meeting ends of two of its walls provided with an external groove, the grooves being reverselyarranged, and a hollow corner post formed of sheet metal and having an intermediate body portion and lengthwise marginal flanges, the latter being interlocked in the grooves, the body portion of the hollow corner post between the bases of the flanges being bowed outwardly and engaging with the end edges of said two walls on opposite sides of the median line of said post for holding the side walls connected by the post from endwise movement, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

3. A. burial case having each of the contiguous edges of two of its walls provided and from endwise movement, substantially as and for the purpose described.
