ATTACHMENT FOR ELECTRIC FANS.
Specification of Letters Patent;
Patented June s, 1915-.
Application led October 3, 19.14. Serial 1\To.`864,746.l
To all whom, t may concern.'
Be it known that I, WILLIAM B. HILL, aV citizen of the United States, residing at Terre Haute, in the county of Vigo and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Electric Fans, of which the following is a specification. f
The present invention relates to an advertising streamer adapted to be employed in connection with electric fans and hasfor its primary object to provide a device of this character which embodies novel features of construction'whereby a series of advertising cards may be displayed in a most elfective manner. j
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is comparatively simple and inexpensivein its construction, which can be quickly applied to any electric fan, which admits of the advertising cards being readily changed as found desirable, and which does not interfere in any manner with the usual action of the fan.
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in certain novel combinations and arrangements'of the `parts as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the novel features thereof being pointed out in the'appended claims.
For a full understanding of the inven tion, reference is to be had to the'following description and accompanying drawing, in whichz- V Figure l is a side elevation of an advertising streamer constructed in accordance with the invention, showing the same as applied to an electric fan. Fig; 2 is a similar View showing a modification of the invention, the position of theparts when in operation being indicated by full lines, while the position assumed by the parts when the fan is not in operation is indicated partially by dotted lines. Fig. 3 'is a similar view showing a still further modification in y whichfan members are provided vat the eX- tremity of the streamer, said fan 4members dropping into the dotted line position when the electric fan is not in operation. Fig. lV is a front elevationV of the electric fan with the streamer supporting bracket applied thereto, the streamer itself being removed. Fig. 5 is a sectional view of the streamer 'supporting bracket on the line 5 5 of Fig.
4, portions being broken away and shown in section, and'F ig. 6 is a longitudinalsectional view throughone of the hingedly connected sections of the streamer.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawing by the same reference characters. .l
For the purpose of illustration the invention is shown as appliedto an. electric vfan of the conventional construction, the numeral l designating the motor, 2 the fan, and 3 the wire vcage within which the fan rotates. The supporting -bracket for the streamer includes a block 4 having an opening therein to'receive a. pair of rods which are secured at their middle portions to thc block, the ends of the rods forming diverging arms 5 which are deflected inwardly and have clamps G Vsecured to the extremities thereof. The clamps are shown as formed with hinged jaws whichl are adapted to be brought into engagement with the vwire'cage 3 of the fan, said jaws being held in operative position by means of 'the bolts 7 and wing' nuts 8 thereon. `Projecting from the block 4L is a pair of hinge pintles 9 which serve to detachably engage corresponding hinge eyes upon the first section of the" streamer. Y
In Fig. vl of the drawing the streamer is shown as formed of three hingedly con-` nected sections, the first'sectionfincluding a card yl0, the second section including a 'cardl l1, and the third section including a card 12,
each of the said cards having suitableadvertising Vmatter marked thereon. End bars 13 are applied to both ends ofthecards l0 and ll and to the inner end of the card 12. These end bars 13 vare provided with cooperating setsof hinge pintles 14C and hinge eyes l5 which detachably engage Veach other as well as the hinge pintles 9 of the supporting bracket to form av detachable hinged connection between the several sections of the streamer as well as ybetween the base of the streamer and the block L of the supporty ing bracket. When the ,electric fan is` in operation the current of air produced thereby will cause the streamer to flutter in front back and forth so as to attract attention 4 thereto. j 1
, In order `that the various advertising cards may be readily replaced by other cards bearing different advertisements', thev end bars 13 are preferably constructed so as to detachably engage the edges of the cards. For this purpose, as indicated by Fig. 5, the end bars 13 may have ay channel formation so as to receive the edges of the advertising cards between the iianges thereof, and suitable fastening members 16 may pass through the iianges of the channel members together with the intervening edges of the cards so as to provide a firm connection between the members. lt will thus be obvious that a new card bearing a diiferent advertisement can be readily substituted for the old card.
4In F ig. 2 is shown a modification in which the adjacent end bars 13gL of the cards 10L and 101D are arranged on a bias or at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the streamer. W hen the fan is in operation the current of air directed thereby against the streamer will overcome the action of gravity and cause the streamer to rise into a substantially horizontal position, as indicated by full lines, although when the fan is shut oit, the action of gravity will cause the card 10b to swing downwardly into an out of the way position, as indicated by dotted lines.
therwise the streamer shown by Fig. 2 is identical in construction with that shown by Fig. l.
A further modiiication is shown by Fig. 3 in which 10b and 11b indicate a pair of advertising cards having end bars 13b applied thereto, said end bars being provided as in the previous instances with the cooperating hinge pintles 14h and hinge eyes 15b. Arranged at the end of the pennant is a pair of small fans ltwhich are pivotally mounted upon the outer ends of arms 18, the inner ends of the said arms being formed with hinge eyes 19 which detachabiy engage the hinge pintles 14h of the end bar 13b at the outer end of the advertising card 11b. `When the electric fan is not in operation the swinging arms 18 `and small fans 17 will drop downwardly int-o the position assumed by dotted lines, although Ywhen the fan is turned on the current of air therefrom will notY only act as in the previous instances to produce a waving motion ofthe hingedly connected sections of the streamer, but will also act upon the small fans 17 in such a manner as to rotate .the same and swing the arms 1S into alinement with the streamer. The rotation of these small fans 17 will serve as an additional means to attract attention to the advertising cards, and the entire pennant will be in motion as long as the electric fan is in operation. A most effective advertising device will thus be provided, since an animated or moving display never fails to attract attention, and all of the advertising cards will be read by every observer.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by lietters Patent, is
1. An advertising attachment for electric fans including a supporting bracket adapted to be attached to the electric fan, and a streamer connected to the bracket member and formed of a series of hingedly connected advertising cards.

Y
5. An advertising attachment for electric fans including a block having an opening therethrough, a pair` of rods extending through the opening` and having the intermediate portions thereof secured within the opening, opposite ends of the rods provid ing diverging arms, clamp members at the extremities of the diverging arms adapted to detachably engage the wire cage of the electric fan, hinge members projecting from the block, an advertising streamer, and complemental hinge members at the base of the advertising streamer for detachably engaging the before mentioned hinge members of the block.
