Letters Patent No. 114,261, dated May 2, 1871.
IMPROVEMENT IN INFANTS SHOES.
The Schedule referred to in theseLettex-s Patent and making part at the lame.-
I, WILLARD M. CARPENTER, of Rowley, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain Improvements in Infants Shoes, of which the following is a specification.

The object'of this invention is to produce a secure yet easy and convenient fastening for an infants shoe; and
It consists of a loop of elastic cord or tape running from the heel to the front of the instep, through orifices in the counter, said cord passing loosely through said orifices, being held in place by suitable balls or enlargements on the ends of said cord, as will'hereinafter more fully appear.
7 In the drawing- A represents the shoe, which is the subject of an application for a design patent of even date with this. B represents an elasticcord, which is formed into a loop, its ends passing through orifices in the counter of the shoe, being provided with knobs or balls G, which prevent the cord from being removed from the shoe.
The loop B passes over the instep of the foot, and may he of any desired length, forming an easy and desirable fastening, which can be readily attached to any shoe or slipper.
