Description

G. A. JOHNSON.
METALLIC MOLDING.
APPUCATIDN man MAY 12, I913.
WITNESSES ATTORNEYS INVENTOR Paiented June 1, 1915.
til-i porting m various parts of iilil Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented il'nne 1 1M5- Application filed May 1%,1913. Serial N0. 76?,9421.
New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in i'i'letallie Molding; and I do hereby declare the following to lie :1 full elemgnnd exuct'tlescription of the invention, such as will enahle others slullecl in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and'to characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this. specification.
The present invention has reference, en-
erully, to improvements in metal mol ing which serves to provide a conduit for carrying electric circuit wires, and Whichinay be connected with the ceiling of rooms, or
2o mounted upon the side Walls of n room so as to'provide, in addition to its Wire carrying tunction, a means for supporting pictures and other decorative or ornamental articles upon'the said Walls.
The resent invention has for its principol ololect to provide a cheap, simple and complete two-piece metallic hollow molding,
for the purpose above mentioned, which can I he made in suitable lengths, the some comto prising o body-portion and o cover-portion possessing simple and integrally formed means for oinmg the one with the other in their properly osscrnhled. relation. The said cover-portion being-easily removable or do tlf tsehaol'e from said body-portion so that access to the interior of the molding and the electric wires contained therein may he quickly and easily attained atoll times with r out danger of injuring the Walls or ceilings to which the molding is attached.
Another object of the invention is to provide a metallic molding of the character de scribed, which is o't neat appearance, and which oficrs o fire-proof inclosure tor sup- Wires adapted. to be contained therein.
The present invention consists, therefore, in the novel features of construction and the novel combinations and arrangements of the the hollow metal molding hereinafter more fully descrihed in the accompanying specification'and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and then finally embodied in the clauses of the claim which is appended to and. which forms on essential part of the said specification and concealing the electric circuit- The present invention is cleorlyillnstroted in the accompanying drawings, in wl'iich:--- Figure l is a face View of the novel constrnction of metal molding made according: to the principles of my present invention; shown the cover portion of the some heir in its closed or attached relation to the, portion thereof; Fi E2 is a transverse sec-- tion of the some; and Fig. 3 is a similar transverse section with the cove -portion shown in detached relation to bodyportion but in a position ehoutto hesnspped or sprung into closed or connected relation therewith.
Similar characters of reference ere employed in all. of the above described riews, to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring now to the accompanying draw- I ings the reference character 1. indicates n" back-plate tonning at art of the hotly-portion, said onelnplate sin provided with suitably disposed perforations 2 through which may he passed the holdinggor tester ing screws 3, whereby said body-portion is secured upon it Well or ceiling 4: in operative position. The lower portion of said backplnte is bent forwardly and upward to provide a UT-shaped portion 5, thus forming a, longitudinal trough or chamber 6 in which may be concealed and supportedelectric circuit wires 7, as shown. The tree edge of said Ushoped portion is turned or hent slightly forward. to provide a holding' rim 8, The upper ortionvot sci-d. hackplate 1. is bent forwan and downwind to provide a receivinghead or holding-member 9.
The reference character 10 indicates a cover-member adopted to he detachnhly connected with said body-portion. to close the electric circuit wires 71 lHlfll edge Ill el sold. covemneinher is adapttit:
ed to he received and engaged. in said rd (serving-hood or holding-nu, iher S or said hotly-portion. ,lhe lower said. cover-- member is provided with o, florwordly e21";- tending portion it? adopted. to register above and close over the open end o l snid ll-shnped portior 5 of said hotly-portion. Connected with the outer or tree longitudinal edge of said forwardly extending portion 12 is a receivingbeed 13 which is adopted to no sprung or snapped into holding engagement with said holding-rim 8, whereby cores member is retained in closing relation to said body-porti on.
It will be apparent from the above detailed description that the present invention provides a very simple two-piece metallic molding easily mounted and of neat appearance, and, furthermore, that the body'-portion thereof provides a means for supporting electric-wires, which cannot fall from their supported relation when the cover-p0rtion is removed, and when the cover-portion is in closing position said wires are entirely enveloped and concealed. I am aware that some changes may be mad in the various arrangements and combinations of the parts, particularly with referenceto their shape or conformation, hence do not limit my invention to the exact arrangements and combinations of the various parts or to the exact details of said parts as above described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, except as the same may be limited by the scope of the claim appended hereto.
I claim i A metallic molding comprising a backplate having suitably disposed perforations for the insertion therethrough of fastening screws, a U-shaped portion providing a trough. connected with the lower edge of said back-plate and extending longitudinally throughout the length oi the latter, the free edge of said U-shaped portion lmving an outwardly bent lip providing a holdingrim, the upper edge of said bacleplate being bent forward and downward to provide a female receiving-bead, a removable covermember the upper marginal edge of which is adapted to be received in said female receiving-bead, a female holding-bead connected with the lower marginal edge of said cover-member adapted to be sprung over said holding-rim of said U-shapcd portion to retain said cover-member in closing relation to said trough formed by said U- shaped portion.
In testimony. that I claim the invention set forth above I have hereunto set my hand this 10th day of May, 1 13.
