Instead of being initially round as shown in the drawings the key-bars 13 may have any suitable cross-section in all cases, such as square, rectangular, hexagonal, semicircular and others. 4

The spacing bars 12 and slots 15-45 could also be varied in shape, if desired.

The key-bars could be placed in the side of the spacing bars, instead of being underneath the same, and the slots may then be formed accordingly.

I do not therefore restrict myself to the exact shape of my grating as shown in the drawing, nor to the exact shape of any of the details shown; but all mechanical equivalents and obvious modifications of the same.

What I claim as my invention and desire -to secure by Letters Patent is I 1. A grating comprising bearer bars having suitable slots, spacing bars passing through said slots, said keybars having portions, inclosed between said bearer bars, expanded in the direction 0 said spacing bars, thereby securing said spacing bars in position. g

A grating comprising bearer bars having suitable slots, spacing bars and keybars passing through said slots, said keybars being sltuated under said spacing bars, when the said grating is horlzontal, and having portions, inclosed between said bearer bars, expanded vertically, thereby securing said spacing bars in positlon.
