Description

FRANK 'r. FEICHT, or CANTON, onio.
. ease-Loon.-
Application sled September 1a, 1913. Serial No. 790,493.
To all whom itmay concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK TV Fmcnr,
' a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Locks; and I do hereby declare the followin to be a full, clear, and exact description 0? the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to sash locks.
The object of the invention resides in the provision of a sash lock which will effectually prevent the opening of; the sashes of a window from the exterior when said sashes are in closed position or one-ior'both partly opened for ventilatin purposes.
A further object o the invention resides in the provision of a sash lock which cannot be surreptitiously operated to released posidrawings wherein like characters of refer-- 3 5,
tion from the exterior of the window, but
which can be readily releasedfrom the-interior to permit raising and lowering of the sashes at will.
With the above and other objects in view the'iIivention consists in the details of construction and'in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying ence denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a window having a pair' of the improved sash locks associated therewith; Fig. 2, a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1 on an enlarged scale; Fig. 3, a section on the line 33 4 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4, a detail perspective view of the improved lock detached.
Referring to the drawing the lock is shown as comprising a securing plate 10 to one end of which is lhingedl'y'connected a frame engaging plate 11 having a central recess 12 in its free edge, the remaining portion of the free edge of the plate 11 being serrated as at 13. The plate 11 has formed thereon a finger grip 14: for a purpose that will presently appear. The improved lock Specification of Lettersiatent.

at 20. In applying the lock the plate 10 is secured to the top of the lower sash 19 in such position that the free end of the plate 11 will pass into and engage the inner wall of the sash grooveof the frame 20,the sash cord being disposed in the recess 12. With the plate 10 thus mounted it will be apparent that the pawl 16 will be disposed in position to engage the teeth 21 of a rack. bar 22 secured to the upper sash 18. When the plate 11 is in engagement with the frame 20 and the pawl 16 in engagement with; the teeth 21 it will be apparent that the upper sash 18 cannot be lowered nor the lower sash 19 be raised, the plate 11 and pawl 16 together with the rack bar 22 serving as a double lock to prevent such movement of the sashes. It will be obvious that by swinging the plate 11 away from the frame 20 to its limit and the pawl 16 away from the rack bar 22 the sashes may beadjusted as desired and the look again set.
What is claimed is The combination with a window frame and upper and lower sashes slidably mounted therein, of a toothed rack secured against the inner side of-the upperv sash adjacent the lower end thereof, a plate secured to the top of th 3 lower sash, an arm hinged to one provided with a recess and with teeth and adapted for engagement with the window frame, said recess being adapted to receive a sash cord, a second plate mounted on the first named plate transversely of the latter, and an arm hinged to one end of the second plate and engageable with said rack.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature in'the presence of two witnesses.
