rmour/LEM: T0 HARNESS.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CLYDE EDsoN WHEELER, of the town of Gull Lake, in the Province of Saskatchewan, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments to Harness, of which the following is the specification.
The invention relates to improvements in harness especially to a harness strap fastening and the object of the invention is to provide a device to be used with the side breeching strap of a set of harness and applied at the point where the breeching strap is connected to the collar, said device pre venting the wearing and consequent cutting of the breeching strap where the connected to the collar.
With the above object in view the invention consists essentially in a flexible strap having two cross slots therein and an end slit and the body portion thereof contracted between the slots, the parts being arranged and constructed as hereinafter more particularly described and later pointed out in the appended claims.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the device as in use. Fig. 2 represents a top view of the same, the hames being shown in horizontal section. Fig. 3 represents a face view of the strap detached.
In the drawing like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts 1n each figure.
1 represents the ordinary horse collar and 2 one of the hames applied on the collar in the usual way and carrying the customary rings 3, 4L and 5 connected to the hames by eye bolts 6. 7 represents a tug connected with the hames and 8 represents a side 1 breeching strap having the forward 'end turned back on itself to form a loop 8 and fastened by means of a buckle 8 The above parts are of ordinary construction."
Customarily the forward end of theside strap is simply looped through the ringl. The result of this" is that the ring, being in direct contact with the strap will intime cut it and the inner face of the strap will also be badly worn in constant use in rub- .bing against the collar.
My invention has for its object as already referred to the provision of a means to prevent the cutting of the strap by the ring and the wearing of the same by the collar. I accomplish this by the provisionwof a wearing strap 9 fitted with an end crossslot same is 1 Specification of Letters Batentl Patgntigd Flay 18, 1915, Application filed April 8, 1914; Serial Nor830A88.
l0, central cross slot 11 and an end slit 12, the strap having also that portion of the i while the slit '12 is passed: over the ring.
By so applying the wearing strap there is a portion of it brought between the ring and the looped endof the side strap and a furtherportion of it located between the inner side of the loop of the side strap and the face of the collar.
Under working conditions it is obvious that the wearing strap will be cut by the ring and worn by the collar and the breeching strap will be kept intact. After the wearing strap has been worn out a new one can be readily supplied at small cost. The body of the wearing strap is contracted at 13 so that it will better fit the ring. What I claim as my invention is l. The combination with the hame of a horse collar provided with the usual side strap ring and a side strap connected to the ring by a loop, of a wearing strap having a Y portion thereof inserted within the loop of the side strap and bearing on the ring and a portion thereof extending between the loop of the side strap and the collar and connect ed to the hame, as and for the purpose specified.
8. The combination with the hame of a horse collar provided with the usual side strap ring and a side strap connected to the ring by a loop, of a wearingstrap passed through the ring between the loop of the side strap and the ring and having cross slots therein receiving the sidesof the loop and an extending end passed between the inner side of the loop and the collar and fastened to the hame, as and for the purpose specified.
4;. The combination with the hame of a ring, of a Wearing strap looped through the ring between the loop ofthe side strap and I i the eye bolt, as and for the purpose specified.
5. A Wearing strap for harness having a longitudinal slot inoneend of snfliclent lengthto shp over a strap rlng 1n one end,
} across slot in the opposite end of sufficient Width to receive the harnessstrap and an intermedi-ate cross slotialso of suflicient Width 00 650: tliis'patent may be obtained for to receive the harness strap as and for the purpose described.
'6. A Wearmg strap havinga cross slot in I one end, a longitudinal slit in the other end,
an intermediate cross slot in the body portion and the body portion thereof between the cross slots contracted, asand for the purpose specified.
