ENVELOP-TAG.
Application filed July 7, 1914.
T0 all whom t may concern Be it known that I, MARGARET R. MAGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful improvements in Envelop- ITags, of which the following is a specification.
rlhis invention relates to an envelop tag adapted for use in fastening an envelop containing a bill, invoice, letter sheet or other matter to a parcel or package intended for transmission through the mail under parcel post reoulations, the primary object of the invention being to provide a tag which may be applied to an ordinary form of envelop and 'fastened to the parcel in a secure manner.
A further object of the invention is to provide a tag of the character described which may be lirmly secured to the envelop and may serve as a vehicle for a return card or address.
The invention consists of the features of construction, combination and arrangement oi parts herein fully described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing in which Figure l is a face view of an envelop embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same. Fig. 3 is a view of the detached.
Referring to the drawing, l designates an envelop of ordinary construction provided with a top sealing flap 2, and 3 and 4 designate respectively7 the front and rear walls of the envelop body.
rllhe tag 5 comprises an oblong rectangular strip of tough paper or other suitable material provided along one of its longitudinal edges with a central tab 6 and end tabs 7 beyond said central tab, one of the faces of the tag body and the corresponding faces of the tab 7 being provided with a gummed coating 8, while the central tab 6 is provided with a pair of eyeleted openings 9. Passing through these eyeleted openings Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May i8, 19H5..
serial No. 849,483.
9 is the loop portion of a fastening cord 10, which is knotted at 1l to hold the looped portion of the cord from displacement, the ends l2 of the cord being free ior attaching the tag to a parcel post package. The other side or face of the body of the tag may be provided with a suitable form 13 to receive the name and address of the transmitter, or any other suitable return card or matter.
ln the use of the device, the bill, invoice or other matter to be forwarded with the parcel. is placed within the envelop 1 to which the tag isapplied, and the flap 2 then sealed and the envelop attached by means of the cord to the parcel. ln applying the tag to the envelop, the gummed faces 8 ot the tag body and the "flaps l are moistened, the tag body then secured transversely to the face of the envelop at one end, and the tabs 7 then turned backwardly over the end edge ift of the envelop and secured to the rear face of the envelop, the tab G projecting outwardly from the envelop, as shown in Figs. l and The tag will thus be securely fastened to tho envelop so that it can not bccome displaced.
l claim:-
An envelop tag comprising an oblong rectangular body portion gummed upon one face th ereoi", tabs at the ends of one of the longitudinal edges ot' said body portion and also having gummed faces on their side adjacent the gummed face of the body portion, said end tabs being foldable in a direction toward said gummed face orn the body portion, and a center tab disposed upon the aforesaid longitudinal edge or the body portion between said gummed tabs and having ungummed faces and provided with spaced eyelets for the passage of a fastening cord.
In testimony whereof l aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
