Description

C. L. DEPOLLIER.
WATCHCASE, c..
UNTED STATES PATNT FFE@ CHARLES L. DEPOLLIER, OF NEW-YORK, N. Y.
wAToHcAsE, sw.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that L CHARLES L. DnroL- LIER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Brooklyn of the city of vided at opposite points with two means y of attachment to the bracelet. The bow of the watch usually serves as one of such means of attachment and at the opposite point the watch-case is usually provided with a permanently projecting eye or loop of some sort to which one end of the bracelet may be secured. It has been proposed heretofore to provide, as such second means of attachment, something which shall not be readily visible when the watch is in use as a chatelaine or sautoir watch, in order that it may not appear that the wearer is then using a convertible watch, that is, a watch which, from motives of economy, is designed to be used also for a different purpose.
lt is the object of this invention to provide an improved form of connecting means to which the bracelet may be connected and itself shall not be readily seen, disappearing into the watch-case center flush with the periphery when the watch is used as a chatelaine or sautoir watch.
ln accordance with the invention the watch-case center is provided at a point opposite the bow, or at each of two points, if desired, with a hole or recess adapted to receive a loop which may be concealed within the hole or recess or drawn out so as to be engaged by a snap ring or hook, but withoutV being wholly disengaged from the watchcase center. 1n order that the loop may be as small as practicable, the watch-case center may also be recessed or dished slightly on its outer surface so as to permit the hook or snap ring to lie partly within such dished recess.
The invention will be more fully eX- Specication of Letters Patent.

Application led February 1, 1915. Serial No. 5,415.
plained hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawing in which it is illustrated and in which--r Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a bracelet and a watch equipped with the improveddevice. Fig. 2 is a view on a larger scale, partly in elevation and partly in section, of a watch-case which embodies the invention, the terminal link of a bracelet being also shown in operative engagement therewith. Fig. 8 is an edge view of the watch-case shown in Fig. 2, partly in section on the plane indicated by the line 3 3 of Fig. 2,V the terminal link of the bracelet being also shown. Fig. 4 is a detail view in section corresponding to Fig. 2 but with the movable loop pushed in. Fig. 5 is an edge view of the watch-case as seen from the right hand in Figs. 2 and 4. Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 3 but showing the terminal link of the bracelet as connected withthe watch-case through the intermediary of a swiveled snap ring.
ln Fig. l of the drawing is shown a wrist or bracelet watch a having an ordinary bow to which is attached one end of a bracelet c, the other end being attached to the watch at a point, as (l, diametrically opposite the bow Z), as hereinafter described.
In the embodiment ofthe invention illustrated in the several figures of the drawing, the center e of the watch-case, having on one side the back e and on the other side the bezel e2, has formed therein at a convenient point, preferably opposite the bow b, or at each of two diametrically opposite points, a recess e3, with its ends normal but slightly undercut so as to leave shoulders e4. The watch-case center is also formed exteriorly and on opposite sides of the mouth of the recess e3 with a concaved or dished recess, as at e5. Seated in the recess e3 is a movable loop f which may be pushed in so as to be received wholly within the recess, as shown in Fig. 4, and thereby to become practically invisible, or may be drawn out, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 6, so that it may be engaged by a hook member c of a bracelet c as shown in Fig. 3 or by a swiveled snap ring 02, as shown in Fig. 6. The outward movement of the loop f is limited, so as to prevent disengagement of the loop from the watch-case, by any suitable means, as by having its legs f slightly bent over to form lugs or stops f2 to engage the shoulders e* previously referred to. The concave recessingof the exs" terior face or' the Watch-case center e, vas at e5, permits the hook or snap ring to be engaged with the loop, When it is drawn out,-
deep recess or hole and the loop itself ybe variously Yiormed so as to permit the loop to be pushed entirely into the hole, so as to be concealed therein, andtoprevent the coinplete disengageinentgof the loop from the Watch-case when the loop is drawn Outland that the invention, therefore, is not limited to the precise details of construction shown and described herein'.
I claim as my invention l. A Watch-case having itscenter formed With a deep recess or hole, a loop adapted to he received and'concealed Within said deep recess or hole and to be dravvn out for engagement with a-hook or snap ring, fand means to prevent complete disengagement of the loop from the watch-case When drawn out; Y
2." A Watch-case having its center 'formed With a'deep. recess orhole on its exterior surface, andL also formed adjacent to the deep recess or hole With a concaved or dished recess, and having a loop adapted to be received and krconcealed Within the deep recess or hole and to be `drawn out for engagement With a hook or snap ring.
3. A Watch-case having its center formed with an undercut deep recess or hole and a loop adapted to be received and concealed Within said deep recess or hole and to be drawn AoutJ for engagement With a hook 01' snap ring'and having its legs formed with lugs to'engage the shoulders of said deep recessor hole to prevent complete disengagementof the loop from the Watch-case.
This specilication signed and witnessed this 29thY day of January, A. D. 1915.
