BRACELET END CONNECTION QriginaI, Filed June 24, 1937 INVENT R W rZ/ZZ-T- BY Z ATTORNEY I I Patented July 2, 1940 UNITED STATES BRACELET END CONNECTION Adolf 0. Schoeninger, Irvington, N. J., assignor to Forstner Chain Corporation, a corporation of New Jersey Original application June 24, 1937, Serial No.
150,039. Divided and this application February 13, 1939, Serial No. 256,048
6 Claims.
This application is a division of application Serial No. 150,039, for Bracelet construction filed June 24, 1937.
My present invention relates to the jewelry art,
a and has particular reference to bracelet constructions.
his the principal object of my invention to provide an improved end connection arrangement for securing the bracelet ends to a wrist watch or the like.
Another object of my invention is to utilize parts made of sheet metal and the like which are strong and sturdy and which can be manufactured at a relatively low cost.
With the above and other objects and advantageous features in view, my invention consists of a novel arrangement of parts more fully disclosed in the detailed description following, in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, and more specifically defined in the claims appended there- In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the assembled bracelet construction;
Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the novel end connection for use with a narrow bracelet of the type shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2, the parts being in open position;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the end connection base; and
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the end connection lock ring.
Referring to the drawing. the novel bracelet construction includes a cooperatingtwo-piece strap secured to a watch or the like by novel end connections l3. The straps are preferably made of flexible metal, and particularly for narrow bracelets, the strap having a slidably adjustable base and a cooperating hook catch (not shown).
It is preferred to use a novel form of end connection with the described type of bracelet, see Figs. 1 to inclusive. The end connection [3 includes a circular frame 36 of channel cross-section, having an opening or slot 3'! at one end thereof and a detent 38 at the opposite end. A ring 39 is seated in the frame, having a lock por tion 40, and two spaced teeth or projections 4| opposite thereto, a depression 42 being positioned between the teeth 4| and diametrically opposite the lock portion 40, for cooperating with the detent 38. An opening or slot 43 is positioned intermediate one tooth 4| and the lock portion 40, to
permit passage of a watch bail such as indicated at 44, Fig. 1.
With the parts assembled as shown in Fig. 1, the end 45 of the strap is positioned between the teeth 4|, and the slot 43 permits passage of the bail 44 to engage the end connection. The end 45 is now turned, and the ring 39 also turns, because of the teeth 4|, until the lock portion bridges the opening 31 to lock the strap end and the watch bail together, the depression 42 cooperating with the detent 38 to prevent accidental turning of the ring 39 in its frame.
While I have described specific constructional embodiments of my invention, it is obvious that changes in the shape and size of the parts, in the relative arrangement of the parts, and in the materials used may be made to suit different designs for bracelets, without departing from the spirit and the scope-of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. An end connection for a bracelet, comprising an annular frame having a passageway for permitting entry of a watch bail, and a ring mounted therein for turning movement and having a passageway and a fiat-sided lock portion of greater width than the ring, said ring being selectively movable to align its passageway with the frame passageway and to position the lock portion across the frame passageway.
2. An end connection for a bracelet, comprising an annular frame having a passageway for permitting entry of a watch bail, and a ring mounted therein for turning movement and having a passageway and a lock portion of greater width than the ring and shaped to provide a seat for a watch bail, said ring being selectively movable to align its passageway with the frame passageway and to position the lock portion across the frame passageway, said frame and said ring having cooperating releasable catch and latch parts adapted to releasably retain said lock portion in position across the frame passageway.
3. An end connection for a bracelet, comprising an annular frame having a passageway for permitting entry of a watch bail, and a ring mounted therein for turning movement and having a passageway and a lock portion, said ring being selectively movable to align its passageway with the frame passageway and to position the lock portion across the frame passageway, said ring having spaced projections extending into the central space of said frame, whereby a bracelet end connection may be mounted therebetween.
4. An end connection for a bracelet, comprising an annular frame having a passageway for permitting entry of a watch bail, and a ring mounted therein for turning movement and having a passageway and a lock portion, said ring being selectively movable to align its passageway with the frame passageway and to position the lock portion across the frame passageway, said ring having integral spaced projections extending radially into the central space of said frame, whereby a bracelet end connection maybe mounted therebetween, the spacing between said projections being diametrically opposite said lock portion.
5. An end connection for a bracelet, comprising an annular open channel frame having a passageway for permitting entry of a watch bail, a ring mounted in said channel for turning movement and having a passageway and a flat-sided lock portion of greater width than said ring, said ring being selectively movable to align its passageway with the frame passageway and to position the lock portion across the frame passageway, said ring having spaced projections extending into the central space of said frame diagonally opposite said lock portion, whereby a bracelet end connection may be mounted therebetween, and a detent on said frame and a cooperating depression on said ring for releasably retaining said lock portion across the frame passageway.
6. An end connection for a bracelet, comprising an annular open channel frame having a passageway for permitting entry of a watch bail, a ring mounted in said channel for turning movement and having a passageway and a fiat-sided lock portion of greater width than said ring, said ring being selectively movable to align its passageway with the frame passageway and to position the lock portion across the frame passageway, said ring having spaced projections extending into the central space of said frame diagonally opposite said lock portion, whereby a bracelet end connection may be mounted therebetween, and a detent on said frame and a cooperating depression on said ring for releasably retaining said lock portion across the frame passageway.
