a citizen of the United States residing at Steuhenville, in the county of .lelt'erson and 5 State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Shade and Curtain llolders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in combined shade and curtain holders or supports and is designed to cheapen the cost of nmnufneturing the same as well as to rovide for adjusting the bracket to windows of dill'erent sizes.

A further object of my invention consists in providing a device of the character described which shall consist of a minimum number of parts, which may be caused to extend over window frames of various widths, which i shall consist of se arable parts adapted to be quickly assemb ed and enabling any person without skill to secure said brackets in proper position upon a window.

A further object of my invention consists in providing a combine shade and curtain support which shall not be liable to get out of order, which shall be durable and eflicicnt in operation and ca able of so sustainin" the curtain to admit of the curtain extending entirely across the length of the pole or throughout the width of the window as may be desired.

With the above and other objects in view my invention consists in the combination, arrangement, and details of construction, disclosed in the drawings and specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the drawing wherein similar reference characters designate similar parts throughout the respective views, Figure 1 is a Side elevation of my invention showin all the parts in assembled relation, Fig. 2 Is an end 45 elevation thereof, Fig. 3 is a side elevation of one section of the bracket, Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the other section of the bracket, l i g. 5 is a detailed view of one of the curtain and shade supporters, partly in section, and Fig. is a cross section taken on the line AA of Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawings which are merely illustrative of my invention, 1 desi natcs an elongated bar made of any suitab 0 metal and provided throughout its length with a transverse dovetailed groove 2 and being formed short of one end with a transverse web 3 adapted to act as a. shoulder. 4 desi antes another bar which will be prefera ily dovetailed in cross section and of a lesser width than the bar 1 so as to snugly slide in the roovo 2 of said bar 1. and be held against isplacement therefrom. The bar 4 will preferably be caused to fit said bar 1 flush with its outer faces and is provided at one end with an enlargement or rail 5 which is adapted to be suitably connected to the bar 4 and is provided with a suitable dovetailed roove 7 being also provided with a shoul er 6. The bars 1 and 4- will be provided with suitable bolt openings 8 by means of which said bars when in assembled relation may be secured upon a window frame or the like.

9 designates dovetailed dies or slides arranged to slide within the grooves 2 and 7 of the barsl and 4 respectively and are held in adjusted position therein by any suitable means such as the screw bolts 10 tapped through the upper edge of the bar 1 and entering the dies or slides 9, suitable thumb nuts 11 being provided to engage said screwbolts to hold said bolts in proper relation.

It will be seen that oppositely arranged shoulders 11 are provided by the ends of the rail 5 adjacent the bar 4 which will abut one end of the bar 1 as shown clearly in Fig. 1 so as to form an extension of the bar 1. The bar 4 also abuts the web 3 which gives it a limited movement. Two hook plates 12 are adapted to be removably secured to the dies or slides 9 by any suitable means. These lates will be of such dimensions as to project below the bars 1 and 4, and formed integrally upon said plates are the hook arms 14 extending forwardly and upwardly, while lugs 15 extend rearwardly with respect to said plates 12, one of said lugs being formed with the usual pintle receiving recess 16 and the other lug being formed with the coiiperating pintle receivmg opening 17. Formed terminally upon each of the hook arms 14 is a split ring 18 adapted to receive one end of a curtain pole, the slit 19 being formed at the under side of the ring..

In the operation the thumb nuts 11 will be loosened to enable the dies or slides 9 to be longitudinally moved within the bars 1 and 4 respectively and then said thumb nuts may be tightened to hold said slides in fixed posit1on. This will be done before the bars are secured upon the window and then one bar may be adjusted in length relatively to the other whereupon suitable fasteners may be projected through the bolt openings 8 so as to secure said bars upon the window frame. The usual shade roller will have its pintles introduced first through the opening 17 and then through the recess 16 in the usual manner. The curtain will be placed upon the curtain pole and the curtain pole placed in the rings 18 formed upon the 1100i arms 14, and it will readily be seen that if it is desired that the curtain extend throughout the entire length of the curtain pole the curtain may be adapted to project through the slit 19 so as to project laterally, if need be, of said rirrgs 18.

What I desire to secure and claim by Letters Patent is '1. In combination a bar having a dovetailed groove, a bar slidable in said dovetailed groove, a rail having a dovetailed groove, said second mentioned bar partially Copies of this patent may be obtained for received in said rail whereby said rail will have two shoulders, said shoulders adapted to engage the end of said first mentioned bar whereby said rail ma form an extension of said bar, a slide sli ing in said first mentioned bar and in said rail, means for bolding said slide against movement, and a bracket formed upon each of said slides.

2. In combination an extensible bar, a track formed in said extensible bar, a slide moving in said track, at each end of said bar, a stop to limit the movement of said slides, a hook arm formed upon each slide extending beneath said bar upwardly and forwardly therefrom, a lug extending rearwardly of each of said slides, and said lug being formed with an opening, the other lug being formed with a recess, and integral split ring formed upon each of said hook arms.
