and GEORGE H. DANNENBERG, citizens oftthe United States, residing at Schenectady, in-
thecounty of Schenectady-and State of New .York, have-invented new and useful Improvements in Bottle'Closures and Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
simple bottle closure and protector for use provide not i only aclosure" buta protector for protecting the moujithfof the. bottle against-germs or insects, such as flies, which' might ordinarilyalight upon that. portion of the neck over which the fluid. is poured when the bottle is placed in use.
The invention contemplates, among other features, the provision of a hood-like member which is adapted to be arranged over the neck of the bottle or receptaclewhich may orfmay not have its closure thereon, with suitable means of securing the hoodlike member in position against-accidental displacement.
. In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts'in a'll the views, and in which: I Figure 1 153 fragmentary perspective view showing the device applied; Fig.2 is a vertical sectional view taken through the bottle and .closure, showing the protector applied; Fig. 3 is a'horizontal sectional View taken on the line 3-3 in Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a perspective 'view of the securing means formed from the protector and closure. 7
Referring more particularly to the views,
We. provide a bottle 10 having the usual neck 11 which may or may not be closed by a cap or cork 12. A hood-like member 13' An object of the invention'is to provide a proyided witha cap or cork and to inclose the cap or cork if the bottle is provided with one, said hood-like member having a depending portion 14 which is' preferably fluted so as to fit closely around the neck. A.
securing member 15 is provided for the hood-like member 13 and consists, moreparticularly, of a strip 16 preferably formed of stamped metal to provide a plurality of oppositely extending gripping lugs 17 projecting from the same side of the strip, with the 1 said strip adapted to encircle the depending fluted portion 14 of the hood-like member and thus also encircle the neck of thebotttle 'so that the lugs will grip into the depending portion of the member, as will be readily seen by referring to the views. One end of the strip is preferably bent outwardly and provided'with a transverse slot 18 and the other end of the member terminates in a reduced tongue 19 which, when the strip passed through the slot 18 and then bent rearwardly upon the body of the strip, thereby securing the strip in encircling position and holding the hood'like membe rigidly on the bottle.
It will be readily apparent that when it is desired to remoie the hood-like member the same can be easily accomplished by bending the tongue 19 outwardly from the body of the strip and then removing it from has been arranged to encircle the neck, is
the slot 18. With the provision of a hood i like member such as describedthe mouth or pouring edge of the bottle will be prote'cted from germs, dust, dirt or flies and particularly when a cap or cork is not iised as a closure for the bottle, the said protector will constitutea closure for the bottle as.
Well as. a protector therefor.
Having thus described our invention, We, claim:
In combination with a bottle 'liaving a neck, a hood-like member ada" tea, to be arranged over the neck and'hav' 'ng a dependhe'neck, and
