` READING-TABLE.

Specification of Letters Patent No. 11,366, dated July 25, 1854;.

To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, CHAS. FoLsoM, of Cambridge, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Library-Table, ofwhich the folis attached the main body of the table B b screws a or otherwise.

Z is a pawl hingedV tothe piece D, and engaging with the teeth of the ratchet bar f upon the upper surface of the table B, by which means the strip D and the leaf C, attached to it `may be held in any inclined position as seen in Figs. l and 2.

E and F are leaves hinged to the centerV piece D at e, c. i

l g, is one of two pawls which are hinged to the leaves E, F," and engage with the teeth of the ratchet bars lz, L, upon the upper surface of the leaf C.

.H is a butto-n or stop7 which enters a part of this specification, in

suitable hole in the piece D, the object of which is to support the book when the table is used in an inclined position as seen in Fig. l.

: is a support for the purpose of holding up the leaf C when the latter is not required.

The table as above constructed may be put to avariety of uses and arranged in various ways. When the leaves E, F, and the center piece D to which they are hinged are `dropped horizontally upo-n the table B, it

may then be used as an ordinary table, for reading, or for other purposes. If one o f the leaves E or F, `be raised into a vertical position, the other remaining horizontal, it may be used for the purpose of writing or copying, the vertical leaf supporting the sheet to` be copied. Its principal use however is as a library table for `holding large unwieldy folios or books of plates, the leaves i `E and F, being inclined upon the hinges e e',

and the whole receiving such inclination toi ward the reader as seen in Fig. 1 as may be found most convenient.
