' P. WIENER.
IRON STAND.
APPLICATION FILED FEB.15,1915.
1,136,455. Patented Apr. 20, 1915.
. l/VI/E/VTOR 512d Wiener;
A TTOHNE Y U ITED srarn FAUL WIENER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IRON-STAND.
To all whom. it may concern: I
Be it known that I, PAUL WIENER, a citizen of the United States, and residing at- New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Iron- Stands, of which the following is a specification, such as will *enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to stands or holders for sadirons, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class Which is designed to be connectedwith, or
secured to an ironingboard and by means of which the use of the iron will be facilitated, and whereby-theiron may be handled or manipulated more easily and conveniently than is ordinary with this class of devices.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which theseparate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable. reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of an ironing board provided with my improvement; Fig.
2 a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1 and on enlarged scale and indicating an iron in po- .sition on the holder in dotted lines; Fig. 3
a plan view of the iron stand detached and showing a slight modification; and, Fig. 4 a section on the line l4= of Fig. 3 and showing the holder attached to a board.
In the accompanying drawing, referring to Figs. 1 and 2, I have shown an ironingboard a of the usual form and at b I have shown one form of my improved iron stand or holder which conslsts of a. base plate 6 preferably stamped.from sheet metal and provided at its opposite side with front legs I) and rear legs 6 and the front legs are longer than the rear'legs, whereby the base plate I), or the stand proper, is supported at an inclination to the boarda. The rear end of the base plate 6 which is downwardly inclined is provided with a rear edge portion Z2 which is beveled downwardly and rear: wardly on its top surface, and said base plate' is provided at the opposite'side edges thereof with raised side walls or flanges b which are preferably terminated rearwardly of the front end 6 thereof, and said front end is also preferably beveled or rounded as clearly shown. I.
In the rear end portion of the base plate Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Apr. 20, 1915. Application filed February 15, 1915. Serial No. 8,222.
b are two pairs or sets of transverse slots whenever necessary or desirable fsimply slides the iron indicated in dotted lines-at d in Fig. 211p into the standor holderf into the positionindicated, and between the side walls or flanges b and inthis operationthe iron passes over the upwardly and'forwardly directed ends 0 of the springs c and drops down in front of said ends and is held against either lateral or backward move mentfan d this operation, or method of operation, facilitates and simplifies the use of the iron as will be readily understood by all.
construction shown, is provided centrally thereof with a V-shaped recess 6.
The operation, or method of operating or manipulating the iron will be exactly. .the
same as with the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, but the construction shown in Figs. 3 and 4 is provided primarily for use in connection with irons which are tapered at both ends, in which event the rear end tapered portion of the iron fits in'the recess 6 when the iron is placed in position on the stand or holder. In both forms of construction, the plate 6 or the body portion of the stand or holder-is rovided with openings or apertures I)", in the construction shown, which aid in a way to prevent the overheating of the stand .or holder, and which also makes said stand or holder lighter when made of metal than it would otherwise be.
My improved iron stand or holder may be stamped from sheet metal, or may be produced by casting, and changes in and iodifications of the various details of construction herein described may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without de-' Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An iron stand, comprising a flat body portion having raised side flanges and adapted to be rigidly secured to a board or support in a downwardly and backwardly inclined position, said body portion being provided transversely thereof and forwardly of its rear edge portion with a transverse raised member.
2. An iron stand or holder, comprising a base plate or body portion having raised side flanges and provided with front and rear legs, the front legs being longer than the rear legs, and said device being adapted to be rigidly secured to a board or support in a downwardly and backwardly inclined position with the rear edge thereof resting on said board or support.
3. An iron stand or holder, comprising a base late or body portion having raised side anges and provided with front and rear legs, the front legs being longer than the rear legs, and said device being adapted to be rigidly secured to a board or support in a downwardly and backwardly inclinedposition with the rear edge thereof resting on said board or support, and the base plate or body portion being provided forwardly gf the rear edge thereof with a raised mem- 4.
