one ot' the principal objects of the invention is to provide a clothes lifterr having two,
prongs wound on their outerv ends to engage the clothes by getting certain portions of the fabric 4between the two prongs and twisting the clothes lifter until the clothes are thoroughly engaged before they are lifted from the boiler.
A great many persons have been scalded by hot water from a boiler-owing to the 25act the clothes were insecurely connected tomthe clothes lifter and would drop back into the boiler and splash water into the face of the user of the clothes lifter.
It is' one of the principal objects of this intention to provide a clothes lifter in which such accidents'would not be liable.
The foregoing and other objects may be attained by means oi the construction illustrated in the accompanyingdrawing, in which- Figure 1 is a sectional view through the end .portion of the clothes lifter made iii accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a detail View showing the manner of connect- 4 for the ends 'of the wire forming the prongs Or fingers. The cross. member 3 is v'ded with a sharp edge 5, and the wire "hich the prongs Aor fingers are 'formed is,pro, ded with a nick or notch 6 in the center thereof. The strand of wire 'is passed. through between the support 3 and the' solid portion 7 on the stick and the notch 6 is engaged with the upper edge 5 ofthe supporting member 3. The two members 8 of the wire are thenl bent downward around the 'supporting member 3 and said strand is then bent aroundto form the outwardly projecting fingers or prongs9 and from this pointthe wires are bent backwardly paral- -lel with the members "8, and the terminal ends 10 of the wire strand are seated in the grooves ai. at' the sides of lthe handle. A ferrule l1 is then placed on the end of the handle to hold the prongs .or :lingers 9 in position to engage the clothes. llt .will be,
the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the claims.
What is claimed is y l. A clothes lifter comprising a stick having a ,recessin the end thereof, a supporting member, and 'opposite'ly disposed grooves, a wire liiter provided with a central bend engaging said support, outwardly diverging iingers, and the terminalends-of said strand engaging the side groves of the handle, and a ferrule for holding the' wire in place.l
2. A clothes litter comprising a stick or handle having a recess at the end thereof and-grooves on opposite sides ofsaid handle, a wire lifter connected to said handle and bent around said support, said lifter having divergent fingers having curved ends, and theV terminals of the wire strand forming a continuance to be seated in said grooves, and a ferrulefor holding the parts in place.
