Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed November 12, 1913. Serial N 0. 800,624. 1
To all whom it may concern a subject of the King of Italy, residing at tion.
useful improvements in toys, and the invention particularly has for its object to provide a toy in which there is included a game table, .at each end of which a figure of a child is placed, and'a third figure is located at one side of the table, the table being designed with a runway for a ball that is adapted to be projected from one end of the table to the other by the one hand of the end figures, suitable clock works and lever mechanism being provided to effect the desired. action, whereby the ball will be projected, the third figure having a pivoted head and mechanism cooperative with the other figures mechanisms for causing the head of the third figure to be turned in the direction of the movement of the ball at each push of the same.
i In its more subordinate nature, the invention includes those novel details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, all of which will be first fully described and then be specifically pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanymg drawing, in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal section and part elevation illustrating the invention in use. Fig. 2 is a cross section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail section on the line 33 of Fig. 2, lokinginthe direction of the arrow. Fig.- 4 is a detailperspective view of the clock works mechanism showing the operating cam.- 'Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the trip lever that cooperates with the cam and is connected with the figure-arm operating link. Fig. 6 is a detail perspective viewqof the arm pivot construction with the parts disconnected. Fig. 7 is a detail'perspective view showing the parts of Fig. 6 connected, and Fig. 8 is a detail sectional view through the pivoted head of the third figure. V
In the drawing in which like numerals designate like parts in all the figures, 1 represents the table top which is dished from the sides toward the center and provided with a runway or groove 2 at the center, the ends of which'runway are cupped as projectile 39. The table top has the upball accidentally rolling OE, and the top is nounted on suitable legs 5, formed prefer- 7 ng plates 6, the endsof which areslotted, as at 7, to permit passage of the links 41 that connect to the arm operating levers 14. l 8 designates the end figures, one of which at 3 to form sto recesses for the ball- 1' Be it known that I, DOMENICO Ronoomfgi: p O
wardly pro'ectin flan es 4 to revent the Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of 1 g g p Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Toy, of which the following is a specifica 1" My invention relates to certain new and ably integrally with the vertical support is designed to represent a boy and the other preferably to represent .a girl, both of which figures may-be seated on chairs 9 and secured at 40 to the table. Each of the figures 8 is provided with a pivoted arm 10,
the'construction of which is best indicated in Figs. 6 and 7, by reference to which it will be observed that the arm 10 is provided with notches 11 in which the bendable lugs 13, of the tubular pivot 12, are
projected and adapted to be clipped over, as
indicated in Fig. 7, the pivot 12 is preferably integrally formed with the lever 14 that connects to the link 41.
15 designates the trip levers that are suitably bent to position, and one end of which is pivoted at 16 to the respective links 41, while the other end is provided with an ofi'- set 24 to form a shoulder 26 and leave a finger 25 to cooperate with the cam 21 later each turn of the cam, one impulse quicklyfollowing the preceding one so that in "the event that the first impulse is not sufiicient to project the ball, the second one will. It
will be noted that the shoulder 26 bears on shoulders 26 be held in contact with the cam and each lever 15 is provided with'an arm 28 that is fastened at 29, and has'a finger 30 to engage the projection 31that' is carried by the rod 32 which passes through the opening 33 in the body. of the third figure 38 and projects upwardly, as at 34:, to form the vertical pivot for the head 36 to which it is secured at 35. The body 38 has a neck pocket 37 for the head 36.
In operation, the clock works motor is wound up in the usual manner and the ball 39 placed on the table. The ball when placed on the table will gravitate into the groove 2, it being understood of course that it must be placed originally in one of the pockets 3. The operation of the motor causes the rotation of the cam 21 which forces the levers 15 alternately out to lower the hand 42 of the figure into close proximity to the table and behind the ball. As soon as the cam 21 has turned sufiiciently to bring the step 22 into alinement with a shoulder 26, the spring 27 will quickly draw the lever 15 into the step of the cam and thereby impart an upward and forward movement with respect to the vertical to the hand which throws the ball out of the pocket 1 3 toward the opposite figure, a second imulse being given immediately following the first one. The should-er 26 is spring pressed into the step 2-3, thus the ball will be alternately projected from one end of the table to the other, or from one pocket 3 to the other. As this occurs the head 36 will be turned correspondingly by reason of the finger 30 engaging the lever 31 and giving it a push over. The lever 31 is not connected to either of the fingers 30, and the head 36 turns freely with the rod 43, the rod 43 lying on the pivotal axes. "When the cam releases the member 15 so that the spring 27 can act quickly, the finger 30 gives a quick push on the lever 31, which turns the head 36 on the pivotal axes 34:, it being un derstood that the lever 31 is rigidly fixed to the member 32.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it is believed the complete construction, operation and advantages of the invention will be clear to those skilled in the art.
