W ien the handle N2 is swung rearwardly then the pin N engages notches K2 in the rear e'nds of the recoil rods K to fasten the said recoil rods in position in the head F, but when the handle N2 is swung into a forward position as shown in Fig. al then the notches N register with the rods K and consequently the latter are unlocked and the breech block F can be moved rearwardly without actuating the recoil device, that is without drawing the recoil rods K rearwardly and pressing the springs L thereof. It is understood that this rearward Inovement of the breech block F is desirable when replacing a refilled magazine in position in the handle B, to allow the uppermost cartridge to pass in front of the breech block F to be pushed by the latter into the bore of the barrel D on returning the breech block F to normal forward position. When this has been done the operator swings the handle 'N2 from forward to rearward position to again `fasten the head F and the recoil rods K to gether. It is understood that when the cartridge is red the breech block F moves rearwardly and presses the springs L of the recoil. device to allow another cartridge to pass from the magazine in front-of the breech block for the latter to push the second cartridge into the barrel during the return of the breech block F by the action of the springs L. The pin N is held against withdrawal from the head F by a longitudinal pin N3 driven into the head F and extending through an annular groove N1 formed in the pin N (see Fig. 3), thus allowing turning of the pin N but holding the same against'transverse movement in the head F. A forward movement of the recoil rods K is prevented in case the barrel D is removed by the use of a transverse pin O held in the frame A and engagingY notches Kl formed in the heads K', as plainly shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The lower end of the lever P is pressed on by av spring Q abutting against the scar I, and the lower terminal of the lever P normally rests against the pe ripheral face of'a transverse pin R mounted to slide transversely in the frame A. The pin R is pressed on by aspring S (see Fig.
5) to hold the peripheral face of the pin normally in position against the lower end of the lever P, and the outwardmovement of the pin R is limited by the head of a screw T screwing in the frame A and engaging a recess R formed in the outer end of the pin R (see Figs. 4 and 5). lThe pin R is provided with a cut-out portion R2 adapted to move into register with the lower end of the lever P on pressing the pinR inward against the tension of its spring S so that the operator can impart a swinging motion o the lever P with a view to disengage the upper end thereof from the rear end of the tiring pin springH whenever it is desired to withdraw the breech block F from the frame for repairs or other purposes. It is understood that the upper end of the lever P' extends through a slot F2 in the breech block F (see Fig. 3) to move into the path of the rear end of the firing pin spring'H, as previously explained. A firearm provided with a frame having a recoil rod bearing, a springpressed recoil rod slidable in the said bearing and rovided at its forward end with a head aving a notch opening onto the front face of the said head, the rear end of the said rod projecting beyond the said bearing and havin a notch, a breech block slidable in the said frame and having a head provided with a turnable pin adapted to enga e the notch in the rear end of the recoil ro und il. pin held in the said frame and engaging the notch in the head of the recoil rod to hold the latter against turning at the time the breech block head is disengaged from the rear ends of the recoil rod thesaid notched head moving out of engagement with the said pin on a rearward movement of the said breech block.
