Be it knovvn that l, JOHN Gr. FRIBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Maiden Rock, in the county of Pierce and State of Visconsin, have invented nevv and useful Improvements in Horse-Collars, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to horse collars and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.

An object of the invention is to provide a horse collar of simple and durable structural arrangement which is adapted to be easily and quickly adjusted to fit the necks of animals of di'erent sizes.

l/Vith the above object in view the invention consists in making the upper side portions of the collar relatively thin and pliable and in providing the said thin and pliable portion With openings adapted to register With each other. In conjunction With the collar made as above indicated a combined neck piece and buckle is used the said neck piece and buckle consisting of a metallic strip of anticlastic configuration having a similar plate of leather secured to the end portions thereof. The said plate of leather is adapted to bear against the upper portion of the neck of the animal. A keeper, consisting preferably of a leather strap is secured at its ends to the metallic strip at one edge thereof and is adapted to receive the end portions of a collar. The said metallic strip -is further provided with upstanding studs adapted to pass through the registering openings of the end portions of the collar and these studs are provided With perforations through Which a flexible member as for instance a leather string may be passed for the purpose of holding the end portions of the collar down in proper position upon the studs.

In the accompanying drawing t-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of the collar. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the upper portion of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the same taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a detailed perspective view of the buckle and neck piece of the collar.

ends of the sides of the said collar. These portions are provided With openings 3 adapted to register with each other when the end portions of the collar are overlapped With relation to each other. Used in conjunction with the collar made as hereinbefore stated is a combined buckle and neck piece the same consisting of a metallic strip 4 which is of anticlastic configuration. A leather plate 5 of similar configuration is secured at its edges to the ends of the strip 4. A keeper 6 is attached at one edge of the trip 4 and the said keeper preferably consists of a strap of leather. Studs 7 are mounted upon the strip 4 and are provided With perforations 8. When the end portions of the collar are overlapped and the openings thereof are brought into register with each other the studs 7 are passed up through the registering openings and the overlapping end portions of the collar are passed through the keeper 6. A. leather string 9 is secured to the plate 5 and may be passed through the perforations 8 above the overlapping end portions of the collar and thus the said string serves as means for holding the overlapping end portions of the collar down in proper position upon the upstanding studs 7.

From the above description taken in conjunction With the accompanying drawing it will be observed that a flexible and an adjustable collar is provided and that the parts may be easily and quickly manipulated to place the collar in position upon the neck of an animal and to remove the same therefrom.
