Description
stent @time .FRANK;M. HUNT, 0F
@Lern-"TON, GEORGIA..
Letters Patent No. 112,921, dated March 21,1871,
I MPRDVEMENT lN FANS AND FLY-DRIVERS.
The Schedule referred toiln there Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom 'it may concern.-
Beit known that I, FRANK M. HUNT, of Clinton, in the county of Jones and State of Georgia, have invented an Improved Fan and Fly-driver; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making part of this specification Figure 1 being a side view of the fan complete.
Figure 2, a top view of theA driving part of the fan.
Figure 3,'a back view of the driving part of the fan. Figure 4, view of a part detached.
Like letters designate corresponding parts in all the gures.
rIhe nature of my invention consists in a very simple and. cheap device for giving motion to a fan or yf driver by means of the foot, substantially as follows:
A base-block, A, restsupon the floor and supports all the other parts.
To this base is secured a suitable casting or support, B, in which is pivoted, in a vertical position, the stati 0.0i' the .fan' or fans D D.
These fans, two being preferable, are attached to cross or horizontal rods E E, the socket aof which embraces the fan-stai`, and is secured thereto and adjusted to any height thereon by a thumb-screw, b, or its equivalent.
Ou thelower end of the fan-stati` is a bevel-pinion, G, into which gearsa vertical bevel-wheel, H, mounted on the side of the casting or support B. ,y l
0n the face of the bevel-wheel, near its periphery, is a pin or pivot, c, which extends through a slot, d, of an arm, I, projecting from a treadle or pedal, L, that is mounted on the front' part of the base A;
This treadle and its arms are so arranged that an ordinary Vibration thereof by the foot will cause the bevel-Wheel H to oscillate on its pivot about one-third of a revolution, more or less, but not to turn entirely around its center. The effect is to cause the fan-staff and fans to vibrate through an entire revolution, more or less, and a very gentle and easy motion ofthe foot will keep up'this vibration, yet produce a very effective n movement of the fans. The whole device is exceedinglysim'ple and cheap.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is l'lhe combination of the treadle L, with its slotted arm I, the bevel-wheel H, with its pin c, the fan-stati` O, with its bevel-pinion G, socket a, rods yE E, and fans D D, arranged and operating substantially as and for 'the purpose herein specified;
Specication signed by me December 23d, 1870. I
FRANK M. HUNT.-
