IMPROVEMENT IN CARRIAGE-CLIPS.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Mosns SEWARD, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Carriage-Clips; and I do hereby declare the fol-. lowing, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference narked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification, andrepresents in Figure 1, a top view;

Figure 2, a side view;

Figure 3, a top View of the same ribbed; and in Figures 4 and 5, the application of the clip to the spring-bar. v

This invention relates to an improvement in clips for carriages, relating particularly to that class which is applied to a gothic-shaped bar, such as seen in 'g. 5. clip shall be pointed at the center corresponding to the shape of the bar. To do this in the' ordinary clip is impracticable, and the clip has been bent over the bar without preserving a defined point at the center.

The object of this invention is to form the clip with the center shaped to a point, so that the consumer can apply it to the bar and preserve in the clip the desired shape aud the invention consists in The appearance of the bar demands that the forging the clip, as an article of manufacture, bent at the center, and shaped up into a point or sharp edgeupon the upper side.

A is the clip, provided with bolt ends B B in the usual manner; but instead of making it straight I throw up the center in suitable dies, forming a sharp edge, a, upon the upper side, and a corresponding depression on the under side, as seen in fig. 2, the other portion of the clip lel't straight, as denoted in figs. 1 and 2,-and in this condition is ready for market.

The consumer takes the clip and, placing the depression (Z on the center of the bar 0, bends it around the bar or axle, as the case may be, and is thus enabled to preserve the defined point a of the arch, which cannot be done with a straight clip.
