G. P. EAST. FRUIT WRAPPING PAPER HOLDER. APPLIGATION FILED Nov. 20, 1913.

GEORGE P. EAST, OF ORANGE SPRINGS, FLORIDA.
FBUIT-WRAPPING-PAPER HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 26, 1915.
Application filed November 20, 1913. Serial No. 802,150.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE P. RAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Orange Springs, in the county of Marion, State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fruit-VVrapping-Paper Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This inventoin relates to paper holders and has for an object to provide a holder which will secure wrapping paper for oranges, vegetables and the like in an orderly array and against being blown away by the breeze.
A further object is to provide a device of this character in which the paper sheets may be removed one at a time easily and quickly, there being novel means for feeding the paper supply upward as the supply becomes depleted.
lVith the above objects in view the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combination of parts herein after fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be made in the minor details of construction within the scope of the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating this invention z-Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a plan view. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view on the line 33 Fig. 2. Fig. i is a cross sectional view on the line 4-4: Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a fragmentary sectional view on the line 5-5 Fig. 2 showing the manner of hinging the leaves to the walls of the device. Fig. 6 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 6-6 Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawing in which like characters of reference designate similar parts, the device is shown to comprise a substantially square base plate 10 from which rises a casing that is open at the top and comprises four side walls 11 there being a slot 12 in one of the side walls for a purpose which will be hereinafter explained. Slidably fitted within the top of this casing is a substantially square platform 13 which snugly fits within the casing and is of a size to support a ream or plurality of reams of wrapping paper 14 of that kind usually used by packers in wrapping oranges, vegetables, and the like, the edges of the reams of paper being confined within the inclosure of the side walls of the casing and the various sheets of paper being thus maintained in an orderly array. The platform as will hereinafter be described may be raised and lowered to adjust the top of the stack of paper to a level with the rim of the casing for easy and quick removal of the sheets in succession.
For preventing the sheets of paper being blown away when the device is in use in the field or other exposed places, a plurality of hinged leaves 15 are employed, one on the upper edge of each side wall, each leaf being adapted to be rocked over and bear upon a marginal edge portion of the top of the stack of paper and form a weight which weights down the paper against being blown away but which is not sufficient to prevent the paper being removed quickly and easily. For hinging each leaf to the related side wall, the leaf is provided with a pair of strap hinges 16 which encircle the rim 17 of the side wall. When there is no breeze blowing, all of the leaves may be rocked out and down against the outer faces of the side walls of the casing so as to be out of the way.
For securing the platform for vertical movement in the casing. the platform is provided in the center of the bottom face with a depending guide pin 18 which telescopingly fits into a guide tube 19 secured to the center of the base plate 10. A lever 20 is fulcrumed as shown at 21 on a bracket 22 secured to the base plate, one end of this lever projecting out through the above mentioned slot 12 in the side wall of the casing, and the other end of the lever being bifurcated to provide branches 23 which pass upon opposite sides of the platform pin 18, each branch being bifurcated terminally to receive a roller 24 which is carried by a pair of bars 25 to the platform. This lever may be depressed at the outer end to raise the platform as desired or may be raised at the outer end to lower the platform. For locking the lever in adjusted position any desired mechanism may be employed, and as an example the present embodiment discloses a vertically disposed rack 26 that has the lower end journaled in the edge of the base plate as shown at 27, this rack normally being held against a lip 28 projecting from the side of 119 that are fixed at the upper ends the lever by means of a spring 29; secured to the base pate. By rocking the rack outwardly the Weight of the platform Will cause the platform to sink with a resultant raising of the outer end of the leyer so that maintained flush. with the top of the. easing the rack automatically operatingto, lock the lever in various adjusted positions.
From the above description it will be seen that I have proyided; an extremely simple and effective paper holding cleyice that may be constructed at a minimum cost, and is;
formed of a few s ong an durable parts that will not easily get out of order.-
What is claimed, is:
A fruit packers paper supply holder ineluding a casing, a vertically movable paper supply holding platform Within and conforming to the contour of said casing, means for mo ing said platform to and locking said platform in various adjusted vertical positions in said casing, and a plurality of hinged leaves on the upper edge of the easing side Walls projecting over the marginal edges of said platform and adapted to weight, down the marginal edges of a paper supply.
In testimony whereof, I affixmy signature, in the presence of two Witnesses.
