HALTER.
icense.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CECIL J. MEYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Arenzville, in the county of Cass and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Halters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to halters and has for its object to provide a halter of simple and efficient construction embodying improved means for adjustably securing the free ends of the chin-strap together and for adjustably securing the cheek-straps to the chin-strap of the halter.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and the formation of parts, as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the halter. Fig. 2 represents a sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of the fastener partially removed. Fig. 4: represents a sectional view on the line l l of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates a chin-strap preferably formed of leather and in circular formation as illustrated in Fig. l having the extremities 6 and 7 overlapped for a distance substantally equal to onehalf of the circumference of the chin-strap. At points diametrically opposite of the chin-strap 5 the fastening members 8 are positioned thereon, the strap extending between the parallel side members 9 and the central member 10 of the fastener. The portion of the strap 5 adjacent the overlapped outer end 6 is formed with a plurality of apertures 11 adapted to receive the outwardly directed pin 12 carried by the central member 10 of the fastener 8. The end 7 of the chin-strap is secured on the pin 12 behind the portion of the strap having the series of apertures 11 therein. The

fastener 8 diametrically opposite the one securing the end 7 receives the portion of the strap adjacent said end 7 and its pin 12 also secures the free overlapped end 6. The portion of the strap adjacent the end 7 is formed with a series of apertures 13 whereby the right hand fastener 8 may be adjusted on the strap. The upper ends of the fasteners are formed with apertures 14: receiving the looped cheek-straps 15 attached at their upper ends to rings 16, and the lower ends of the fasteners are formed with openings 17 adjusted to receive a bit, when desired. An adjustable head-strap 18 is secured to the rings 16 and a rear- Wardly extending jaw-strap 19 is also secured to the latter. The rearwardly extending jaw-strap 19 and the chin-strap 5 are connected by the strap 20 and rings 21 interposed between the latter and said chinstrap 5.
What I claim is:
1. A halter comprising a chin-strap of circular formation having the free ends overlapped, means for adjustably securing the overlapped ends of said chin-strap to the portions adjacent thereto, cheek-straps secured to said securing means, a head-strap connected with said cheek-straps, and a jaw engaging strap.
2. A halter comprising a. chin-strap of circular formation having the free ends overlapped, fasteners adjustably securing the overlapped ends of said chin-strap, said chain-strap having apertures at the ends thereof and series of apertures a distance inwardly from the ends thereof, pins carried by said fasteners positioned in said end apertures and adjustable within said series of apertures, cheek-straps carried by said fasteners, a head-strap carried by said cheek-strap, and a jaw engaging strap.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CECIL J. MEYER.
