To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, Rants A. BEAUSEJOTITR, a subject of the Crown of Great Britain, and resident of the borough of Brooklyn, in the city and State of New York, have in vented a new and useful Article-Holder for Liquid-Coating Machines, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to article holders for liquid coating machines with the object in view of providing apparatus of this character in which the articles to be coated may be hung in a free swinging manner with respect to the article holder or may be hung in a rigid manner with respect to the article holder.

Another object is to provide means for supporting several articles from independently swinging arms of the article holder whereby any one of the arms may be swung out of line with the other arms so as to permit an article to be removed from that arm and another article attached to said arm without affecting the position of or in any way disturbing the remaining articles in the holder.

A further object is to provide means for attaching the articles to the holder in such a manner as to have the holder in contact with as small a portion of the article as is possible.

A still further object is to provide certain improvements in the form, construction and arrangement of the various parts whereby the above mentioned objects may be effectively carried out.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings in which,

The frame of the article holder comprises the side members 1 and the top member 2 and is pivotally supported, as at 3, from carriages 4% which are fitted to reciprocate in the horizontal member 5. The details of this carriage and the horizontal member 5 are no part of this invention and will not be more particularly described.

Struts 6 of diiierent lengths are provided for steadying the article holder in a desired angular position with respect to the horizontal member 5. A. cross-bar 7 is supported at each end in the side members 1 and is fitted to support the pendant arms 8 which are mounted thereon so as to be free to swing in a direction at right angles to the axis of the bar 7 These arms 8 are provided near their lower ends with fastening devices for securing the articles to be coated, thereto. These fastening devices comprise the spikes 9 and wood screws 10, which wood screws are provided with enlarged heads 11 for their convenient manual operation.

The side members 1 of the frame are provided near their lower portions, with holes which are adapted to register with holes in the arms 8, whereby the locking rod 12 may be passed through all of said holes for locking the arms 8 against swinging movement within the frame 1, 2. This locking rod 12 may be provided with some well known device for preventing its accidental removal from looking engagement with the arms 8 and frame 1, 2, such, for instance, as ahole at each end fitted to receive cotter pins 13.

In operation, the articles to be coated, indicated by 14, are pressed firmly against the arms 8 after the wood screws 10, 11, have been withdrawn, so as to force the spikes 9 into the articles. The articles are then held firmly in this position while the wood screws are screwed into them so as to fasten them securely on the arms 8. By reason of the fact that the arms 8 are swinging, it is not necessary to secure the articles in the holder in rotation. For instance. it is just as easy to secure each alternating article in place and then secure the others in place by swinging the arms upon which no articles have been hung, out of line with the arms upon which articles have been hung, and securing the other articles to the said arms while they are in such positions out of line with the other arms. it is just as easy to remove any one of the articles at any time without running any risk of marring the remaining articles. After the articles are all attached to their arms 8, they may be locked against swing- For the same reason ing movement with respect to the frame 1, 2, by means of the locking rod 12, in the manner set forth above.

in inserting the spikes 9 and wood screws 10, ll, into the articles, care should be taken that they are inserted in some part of the article which will not be visible when the latter is put to its final use. fastening device is very valuable in connection with coating parts of casings, such as the various parts of a piano case, where only certain portions of the articles are visible after they are put together in their final adjustment. By insertin the spikes and screws on the parts of the article which are not to be exposed when put to their final use, a perfectly secure attachment to the article holder is obtained without marring or in any way preventing the liquid coating from covering every bit of the article which is to be finally exposed to view.

It is to be understood that various changes may be resorted to in the form, construction and'a-rrangement of the difi'erent parts of this device, without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention; hence I do not wish to limit myself strictly to the form herein shown and described, but

1. An article holder for liquid coating machines comprising a movable carriage, a frame pivotally mounted on said carriage, a bar mounted within the frame, an arm pendant from said bar and adapted to swing-thereon, means for locking said arm to the frame and means at the lower portion of said arm for securing an article thereto.
