IMPRovE-MENT 1N ATTAcHMI-:Nrs FoR REvoLvme MOLD-BOARDS `rou I Lo ws.`
The Schedule referred to in' these Letters Patent and xna'kingparf;` of the same.
To all whom ctmay concerne Beit known that I, J osEPfI S. GoDEREILof Les- `lie., in the'couuty of Ingham and State of Michigan,
have invented a new and` useful Improvement in Attachments for Revolving Mold-Board Plows and. 1 do hereby declare' the following` to be a full, clear,
and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making a part of this spec- 'licatiorn in whichi 'y Figure 1, by a crosssection oi' the plow-beam and a front elevation of the attachments, and ,an edgewise View of the moldfboard, illustrates their Aarrange-1 ment.
Figure 2 is a. sectional `elevation through a; lig;
1, looking toward the rear ,face of the moldbL )a rd;
`and ,I `Figur-e3 is e. sectional `plan viewthrongh y` y, fig. 1. Like letters' of reference indicate like parts in each.
` JVMy improvement relates to that class ofy plows. known as revolving" mold-board p1ows,j and consists 'in combining with a `revolving disk mold-board im-v proved devicesv by which to Vattach it tothe plow`v `beamer-1d adjust it with reference to the work it is "lo v enable others skilled in the art to make and use my improvement, I will proceed to describe its com struction andmode of opel-ation.
plow-beam, back which its shaft plays, are Such as are described iu Letters Patent No. 101,256, dated 29th March, 1870.
' i `The beam b is bored or mortised so that the shank ef ofen eye c may pass .through tbe same, where it is secured by a nut c, with or without a'washer c'; also a recess of curved face is cut in the side ofthe beam,
in which, by the eyefaj, to fasten the hollow support d,
and the inner faceof this recess is grooved or mortisefl to receive the half of `the eye a, so that the face of the snpportd may. bear, against the` Vhollowi'ace of the recess, all asillustrated in 'f ig. 3.
A similar eye, c, with Shank, e', is fitted to the hol-I low support fl, the shank passingthrough the support The lower vend of the support fl is jrecessed and moi'tised in like .,xnanner, as already4 described."
The box a'passesthrough the eye e, and is drawn upk tightly against 'the face ofthe recess therein, by means of the'nut c", as shown in fig.,2. I
1n 'the class of plows referred to, the mold-board should be adjusted vertically up, do`\vn,`and also hori- 1 zontally, by a'circular motion, as well as in the direct line foi' its axis. A 'lhese objects are secured by described. f lo elect a vertical adjustment, I loosen the nut c, whereby the hold of the eye a onthe snpp'ort l is loosened, whereupon the support d is raised vvor lowered in the eye-a, carrying the box m and'moldboard n` up or 'downwith itto the desired point, where itand they are secured bytightening the nut c. 'The `circular horizontal adjustment specilicd is effected by rotating thesupport din the eye a, when the nut c isloosened, and with it the boxm and moldQboard n, so as to`adjnst the latter toany de sired angle with reference tothe line ot' the furrow.
(The adjustment ot" the 4mold-board n in a direct line to or from the beam b is effected by .loosening the [nut c, which loosens the hohl ot' the eye c and the lower end ofthe supporti] on the boxm. The latter may then be' adj usted out oriu', horizontally inthe lille of its axis, toY any desired dist-ance. and there tightened in place by tightening the nut c. l I do not claim as'new any'ofthe devices hereinbefore described, separately considered, but limit myself' to the arrangements i hereinafter speclh'ed.
That l claim as myinvention,and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 1 l. The arrangement of the standard d, and shank c', eye e with the box 'n and mold-board m, with suitable connections to the plow-beam, substantially as set forth.
2. The 4arrangement of' the hollow standard d to admit the shank e', with eye a-,shank a',and plow-beam b,'substantially as described.
In testimony whereof 1,tbe said J'QSEIH4 S. GOD- FREY, have hereunto set my hand. JOSEPH S.- GODFREY.
Witnesses y R. C. WRENSIALL, A iS. NICHOLSON.
