DlSK OR ROTARY PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 742,908, dated November 3, 1903. Application filed August 26, 190].- Serial No- 73.296. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it ntaty concern.-
Be it known that I, NEWELL SANDERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ghattanooga, Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow-Disks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements pertaining to disk or rotary plows; and the object of the invention is to produce an improved means for supporting the scraper whereby it may be readily adjusted to regulate the discharge of the dirt from the disk while maintaining the proper relation between the edge of the scraper and the concave face of the disk.
I have illustrated the invention in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation showing the plow disk and scraper. Fig. 2 is a sectional view. Fig. 3 is a sectional detail showing the tongueand-grooved connection between the bracket and scraper-support, and Figs. 4 and 5 are detailviews of the scraper-adjusting block.
Fig. 6 is a cross-sectional view of the end of the scraper-standard, showing the curved seat.
In the drawings, A indicates the plowframe, which is supported by the usual land and furrow wheels. As these form no part of the present invention they are not described in detail. Bolted to the frame A is a disk box B, which carries the bearing 1) for the rotary plow-disk G, and as the manner of mounting the disk in its bearing forms no part of the present invention more specific description thereof is deemed unnecessary. Upon the upper side of the disk-box is a fanshaped extension D, to which the scraperstandard is designed to be secured in such a manner as to permit of its radial adjustment with relation to the axis of the plow-disk. I prefer to provide for this radial adjustment by forming the face of the fan-shaped extension D with a plurality of ribs (1, formed on lines radially from the axis of the plow-disk. The scraper-standard E is provided with a groove to correspond with these ribs, and both the scraper-standard and the disk are provided with openings for the passage of clamping-bolt, and the opening or openings in these parts are preferably made elongated for the purpose of raising or lowering of the scraper.
The scraper-standard consists, preferably, of a fiat bar of metal, which is carried upward 0n the rear of the disk and downward at the front, where it terminated in a suitable connection for the scraper, this connection comprising a washer-plate F, having its front and rear faces f and f curved in opposite directions. The rear curved face seats in a correspondingly-curved seat in the front lower end of the standard, while the front curved face is fitted to correspondingly-curved portion of the bracket G, which is secured to the scraper H, or vice versa. A bolt 1, passing through suitably-elongated openings in the bracket, standards, and washer, connects these parts firmly together. If desired, these parts may be serrated on their adjoining faces to hold them more firmly against slipping. If desired, the fan-shaped extension might be secured directly to the frame.
From the above description it will be seen that I provide an extremely simple and effective means for supporting the scraper, which enables me to adjust the scraper to any desired position and to maintain exactly the proper relation between the scraper and the curved face of the disk to secure the best results.
I claim- 1. The combination with the plow-frame and rotary disk, of a scraper-standard of substantially inverted- U shape having its depending arms located in front and rear of the disks, means for adjustably supporting the rear arm from the frame whereby it may be adjusted radially of the disk, and a scraper carried by the front arm, substantially as de-. scribed.
2. The combination with a frame and plowdisk, of a fan-shaped extension or bracket plow-disk, a scraper-standard having one end connected to said fan-shaped extension so as to be radially adjusted with relation thereto, said standard extending up over the edge of the plow-disk and down in front thereof and a scraper adj ustably connected with the front end of said standard, substantially as described.
supported by said plow-beam in rear of the ICO 3. The combination with the frame of a disk box having a plow-disk journaled thereon, a fan-shaped bracket or extension carried on p the upper side of said disk box and a scraperstandard adjustable on said bracket on lines radially from the axis of the plow-disk anda scraper supported by said standard, substantially as described.
4. The combination with the frame and plow-disk, of a scraper-standard supported by said frame and extending in front of the disk, a Washer-plate having its front and rear faces positively curved in opposite directions, the rear face engaging a correspondinglycurved seat in the standard, a bracket having a curved seat engaging the front face of the Washer, a bolt passing through said parts for holding them together and a scraper carried by the bracket, substantially as described.
5. The combination with the frame and NEWELL SANDERS.
