Description

I 45 72;? jf/za/a HTHDGRAPHER, WASHINGTON, D. C.
anal cam.
I,-Gi:o11en W. BEERS, of Bridgeport, county of Fairfield, Sta-tejof Connecticut, have invented certainnew, and nseful lmprovementsi in Concealed-SelfjgnidingOar -iage-doorHinges, of which the following isaspecification. l. d a v My inventionconsists in thecomhination of a socket witlrorifioe at lower portion-anda lever-arm carried the face-plate. -Q f Description of 1 ccompany'ing Drawing.
Figure 1 is frontview of hinge-back.. s Figure 2 is section view of hinge-back. 1 3 Fignre'3 istop viewof hinge-back. Figure 4' is side :viewof front.. Figure 5 is top jview-of front.
General Description. wA, fig. 1, is the-plate of hinge. B, opening'foiyarm of front.
c,guiding-plane. 1 D,pivot-chamber. j "ca-a a, holes for screws. 1
.1 E, fig. 5, plateof front. 1 a1'm'0t"front." 1 j G,pivot. a 1 y 1 Iconstruct my hinge as follows:
fTo. the plate A, -fig. 2, the. guiding-plane'or cup 0 1 is eastfwith' the pivot camber-D bored at the ju nctureof the line of guiding-planet. I also cast: the opening B,thi'ongh which the 1 arm l ffig. 5 ,'works;,thellioles a a w or also cast in i the plates for the purpose of securing the ;back to door-Jami). s s 1 1 I also curve thejside of plate A to correspond withcnrveof jamb. a 1
.The..fr mt or working-part of hinge Elias the arml castontoitsl ihce rja'lhisarm runs at right angleswith face of front on twosides. 1
This section of the. arm fitsJthe opening B, fig. 1, and keeps the hinge in position perpendicularly.
. To allow for the throw. of .hinge, the front section 30f arm is carriedto'j the" side of plate, .giving'it a segmentform laterally.
- sate downwardat an angle corresponding to the depression of the socket, so as to admit of a small opening in BEER-3,57 1 ,BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT.
haters Patent No.112,313, dated March 7, 1 871.
ime sensemeesened' to in these was Patent and iniaklng part oi the, same.
The 'arm is thenextended down from the front 'section atany desired angle, and terminates with the ease in enteling the arm, and to' lessen the height. of opening.
1 The-manner of using is readily understood. The back of hinge is fitted to the door-jamb of carriage and secured in position, the hinges 'being set as near the ends of door as deemed 'best. The front of binge is then secured to the door by screws.
When it isdesired to .put the doorin place, the
ends of arm'are set into the opening and the hinge slides to its place, without further care, by the action of guiding-plane or cup 0.
' The advantages of .my invention are- First, the opening B is made smaller and "regular inform, consequently adding to'its beauty aswell asstrength.
Second, the ease with which the door is put in 7 place. The guiding-plane or cup c carries the pivot directly to its position, whereas in most of the old hinges the arm is carried out at right angles, andthe end secured with .I' claim as my invention-- and arm F, thelever part of the'latter curved down- -ward at an angle to correspond with the depression of the socket, and furnished with a ranged as described.-
- In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification before two subscribing witnesses.
